It's being discussed right now on Stephanie Ruhle's show.
I'm not sure I agree with that... it is "A" Katrina moment, but perhaps not "THE" moment for a bastard who's had MANY, going back to his mocking a disabled reporter.
I CAN see a "fact check" video which juxtaposes a crossed-arms and petulant Trump saying he's doing "a lot better than Obama," mixed with actual facts about how Obama's administration handled the situation.
ONE THING IS FOR SURE...we CANNOT shy away from Trump's record in office. It's going to have to be in the mix. YES, we have to speak directly to voters, with an agenda that will matter to them. We also have to make it a balancing act.
We'll see what comes out of the debates tonight.

To show the cruelty of turning one's back on the suffering of others, yearning to live and breathe free.
We must continue to oppose this cruel man in the White House however we can with our voices, presence, our vote!

(18,837 posts)...it seems that we have somehow achieved a higher tolerance level to shock in the Trump years. I can't imagine that photo during any other presidency...but, as many pundits have said in recent days, Trump commits all of his atrocities in plain sight. He does it, without remorse, and if there's blowback, he simply lies, and the media story then becomes covering his objections and grievances and denials, rather than the actual act he's committed.
The photo and the story that goes along with it IS getting coverage...I'm just not seeing the level of outrage I'd expect.

(18,837 posts)Yes, there were people who saw the photos of him clearing brush at the pig farm and took it as proof that he was a low-down, ornery, mean, rootin' tootin' cowboy.
There seemed to be more of a cult fascination with Cheney being "Darth Vader" than Bush being "John Wayne."
But in the bigger picture, I think he was embraced as more of a useful idiot. His "base"...in the big picture...seemed to be more in love with Republicans in power than they were in Bush himself.
Trump, on the other hand...yes, that's a "cult of personality." An inexplicable one, but a genuine cult.

(43,182 posts)A Katrina Moment is the manifestation of gross incompetence and unqualified cronies running the show.
Don't get me wrong--that's all in play here. But here you have the added factor of simple malicious evil at play that supercharges it.

The intentional cruelty and viciousness of this so far off the scale, it's hard to describe or compare it to anything that came before in our recent history.

During our Presidencies, it is our person's fault.
Surely we have learned this by now.

(18,486 posts)At least Bush evidenced SOME interest in the plight of the Katrina victims, notwithstanding his administration's lackluster response.
