Serena Williams has been making history in professional tennis ever since she began, and now she’s done it again.

On Tuesday, the 23-time Grand Slam winner announced that she’ll be the next athlete to have her image on a Wheaties box, and she’s the second Black woman tennis player to be given that honor since legendary tennis pro Althea Gibson.

and only about the fourth to be on the box while still playing. (Federer, for instance, has never been on.)

She was on a Wheaties box in 2001 - her tennis career was in the late 50s and early 60s. Beyond that she became a fairly good golfer on the LPGA circuit in her late 30s and early 40s.

Let us hope that Wheaties (and others) are a bit more activist in recognizing the best athletes, no matter the sex or color.
