...its vividness and spontaneity of imagery is just so stunning. Yet Mr Shakespeare did it a thousand times, apparently without thinking it any extraordinary thing. If I could have one question answered from history, it would be to know what Shakespeare thought about his work in his heart...would he have been shocked by his posthumous reputation...?
