I'm really enjoying Soccer these days..World Cup Especially.

Big typical NFL Male fan who for years was not interested in Soccer.. But slowly but surely I'm becoming more interested in soccer.. Especially big events (World Cup).

Also trying to understand more about the rules and team strategies on the field ..
I posted a thread in the SPORTS FORUM on D.U. a short while ago asking questions to those who seem to have a good understanding of the game..I'm really enjoying this years W.Cup Event..

I've learned a lot..Can't wait to get to the upcoming matches..Was a little pissed at USA running up the score in their first game..

And then there was this article today.... Conduct of African women teams being highlighted by announcers..and more.. Have to read it again.. But my first impulse was to post it.

Sorry, just my opinion, but the women's game is better to watch...

They don't do the flop and roll near as much as the men...they actually try to fight thru the checks, instead of faking an injury and flopping around like a fish.

Goal differential is the go-to tiebreaker for tournament group stage advancement or for league table standings, so teams are highly motivated to score high when possible.

There’s also a cultural element wherein it’s considered fairly rude or insulting to back off when you’re beating a team. A team would rather lose 0-13 against a team that’s killing them versus losing 4-0 to a team that took pity on them and stopped trying. One makes you look outmatched, the other makes you look sort of pathetic.

I sometimes forget that different sports have inherent cultures that often seem outright bizarre to the uninitiated.

Play only lasts for fifteen seconds before they break for commercials. Lots and lots of commercials.

Seemingly every play ends with the risk of a potential career-ending injury. And when players retire with their millions, their brains will be too far gone for them to enjoy their wealth, or anything else, really.

Soccer is a little better, but I'm basically over sports now.

If I couldn't fast forward through the commercials/timeouts/reviews/etc., I would have given it up by now myself.

I would say that your interest might be enhanced by the cute women.

Can't say as I could blame you. I have a huge crush on Christen Press. I have always had a thing for strong athletic women.

But most of all, they play a really engaging and entertaining style. I always look forward to seeing them. I do think they are more enjoyable than the men's game nowadays. Soccer is one sport where body size is less relevant. Unlike Basketball and Football that are dominated my giants of height and girth.
