E Jean Carroll claims in her new book What Do We Need Men For? A Modest Proposal, that she was raped by Donald Trump in a dressing room.

The incident allegedly occurred in the fall of 1995 or spring of 1996, and Carroll still has the coat dress she claims to have worn that day

She claims Trump asked her for help with a gift and then allegedly lunged at her in a dressing room before forcibly penetrating her for three minutes

The White House called Carroll's allegations 'a completely false and unrealistic story' meant to make Trump look bad

Trump would have been married to Marla Maples at this time, and Carroll is now the 16th woman to accuse the president of sexual misconduct.

Women and people in general have ALL kinds of valid reasons for keeping silent about being violated in one of the worst ways imaginable. I had the initial reaction of, "Why didn't she report it?" But quickly caught myself because, as I said, this woman had a career, privacy, her dignity, possibly a family, and other things that she likely felt she needed to protect. Things are a little different now in the era of "me too" but it is still a horrible experience for women who report being sexually assaulted, especially if their abusers are men with power. Trump would be one of the worst because he is such a vile piece of crap who will get deep down in the mud to disparage this woman.

I think any sort of physical evidence would be questionable over 10 years later. I certainly believe her when she says this, but unless she took steps to not just keep the coat, but properly preserve any sort of evidence, I'm not sure it would be usable in a court.

I was very nearly raped by a police officer in the late 70s. I guarantee you if that son-of-a-bitch ever runs for public office, I WILL disclose his identity. At the time it happened, I doubt it would have done any good at all, even if I had been believed. Victims have their own reasons for keeping their mouths shut and they are as varied as the human beings on this planet. Sometimes it's just not worth the risk or the pain to make these things known, especially back then. When the victim feels it's safe and appropriate, it is the right time to disclose. Whether anyone else can make hay of it or not is not the point.
