on Morning Joe. A series of sad faced people held up signs complaining about how long they waited for treatment for various medical problems. Since there is no such healthcare schema in existence, I was mightily impressed by their crystal ball forecasting. A somber voice over lady helpfully added the accompanying doom and gloom laundry list... end of life as we know it, we're all gonna die horribly, it'll kill your granny, etc.
This piece of work was presented by a Pac called One Nation and comes from the machinations of Karl Rove and Mitch McConnell, and everyone's fave billionaire Sheldon Adelson, amongst other luminaries from the right. Look for them to be hitting Dems candidates who are promoting universal healthcare plans.

(73 posts)They have millions of dollars to throw at advertising campaigns that would be spent on actual health care in a single payer world. They have money for other marketing, PR departments, for dividends to stock holders, for 7 figure salaries to corporate officers and other super duper important corporate types, for political contributions to fascist politicians and right wing nut bag think tank donations that also isn't been spent on health care.
I guess not enough people see that logic.

(82,849 posts)A quick denial of coverage for pre-existing conditions, and have done with it. By the time the patient wades through any appeal process, they'll be safely in the grave. Winning!

(14,004 posts)Medicaid leaves me with virtually no bills or co-pays on hospital stays, doctor visits, and prescriptions. Yes, it will cost a lot but its worth it for the health of our citizens!

(26,330 posts)Medicaid has its own negative connotations - for poor people and many providers wont accept it.
Medicare is very popular even though it has been hamstrung by only catering to the sick and elderly. Combining the risk pool with young and healthy people is the only thing that makes sense. After that, Medicare can be strengthened to where it should be.

(26,330 posts)Then we get old and sick and get laid off on the government plan. Then wonder why the government plan is so weak.
You couldnt design a more inefficient system if you tried.
The free market skims all the cream off the top and leaves nothing behind.

(11,738 posts)If not then you are likely benefiting from dual coverage. Medicaid fills in the gaps in Medicare such as lowering the out of pocket for drugs and hospital stays, access to services that Medicare doesn't cover like IHSS.
Medicaid comes after its money after you die (if you own a house).
Medicare has been carved up over the years, especially in the 80's

(14,004 posts)In the past i was just on state Medicaid. Then I qualified for disability and got Medicare. I had just Medicare for a while before I found out I was still eligible for the states expanded Medicaid as a secondary.

(11,738 posts)Medicaid has lower reimbursement rates so it is not as widely accepted, but it actually covers more services than Medicare. Doctors and clinics can usually deal with Medi-Medi.
But to the point, we certainly do need a comprehensive health care coverage system. Perhaps if we didn't spend 50% of our discretionary budget on war we could afford one.

(15,805 posts)With Dark Money where no one knows the names of the big money contributors. That's a huge problem and should be corrected by some serious campaign finance reform laws.
The Super rich that fund these rightwing PACs (and why are they mostly pro Republican anyway!) don't want their names associated with undemocratic activities that make life harder for regular people.
Cause if we knew who they were then maybe we'd boycott their stores, and we wouldn't shop at their businesses, or buy food from their eatery. Let's see more he transparency in exposing those who who are trying to reshape our society with money.

(8,924 posts)We need to run our own ads pushing back on the lies and exploiting the Republican no plan and abysmal record on health care. Passing our own health care plan in the House will help define our policies and assure people who already have good health care that we are not going to take that away, that we are only going to help those who don't already have good, affordable health care.
