A Jesuit high school that refused to fire a married gay teacher will no longer be recognized as Catholic by the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, according to the Guardian.
Archbishop Charles Thompson plans to issue a decree Friday prohibiting Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School from calling itself Catholic or being identified as a Catholic institution, according to the newspaper.
All those who minister in Catholic educational institutions carry out an important ministry in communicating the fullness of Catholic teaching to students both by word and action inside and outside the classroom, the archdiocese said in a statement Thursday.
In the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, every archdiocesan Catholic school and private Catholic school has been instructed to clearly state in its contracts and ministerial job descriptions that all ministers must convey and be supportive of all teachings of the Catholic Church, the archdiocese added.
In an open letter Thursday, Brebeuf wrote that it was founded as an independent institution and that the dispute was the result of a sincere and significant disagreement.
After long and prayerful consideration, we determined that following the Archdioceses directive would not only violate our informed conscience on this particular matter, but also set a concerning precedent for future interference in the schools operations and other governance matters that Brebeuf Jesuit leadership has historically had the sole right and privilege to address and decide, the letter states.

Smdh you'd think the freakin' archbishop, of all people, would damn-well know better. Especially considering the 'legality' of having a WRITTEN FOUNDING DOCUMENT that says 'We do what we want.'
If he insists, this bishop might end up with an office space next to that other religious supergenuis, Burke.
