So in Phoenix, Arizona, a kid takes a toy in a store and it's caught on camera.
The entire family is chased by the police, and their lives are threatened at gun point.
But what the hell. After all, they're black. Isn't that what America is about?
Seems as though this shit will never end.
Seems that the bigots will always be here.
Seems as though too many of them get to be cops.
Seems as though they will forever be able to shoot black men, women and children with no penalties.
Seems as though enough people in power don't give a rat's ass.
Seems as though America really sucks a lot when it comes to putting an end to this disease.
Will being black ever cease to be a crime in America? Ever?

(15,805 posts)The police have misplaced priorities. Rather than go for the full max Rambo style take down, they had a choice of several options available.
Why not start with the basic civil question: did you know your kids might have picked up a dolly from from the store? OK, cute kids, no problem, sir. We'll just return it to the store for you. Shake hands and go about your day. Win-win for everyone, instead the police escalate a routine encounter into a national incident.

(5,557 posts)Sorry once I saw the video I lost all sympathy for the family. I cannot stand thieves, and with multiple family members doing it this was no innocent accident. Existing warrants and fleeing the scene also undermine their story. Police probably should be disciplined for overreacting and unprofessional behavior, but the family's lawsuit should be tossed.

So you see? There really is justice in this country.

(37,748 posts)I dig how you place all blame (except for the one, small "overreacting and unprofessional behavior" qualifier).
One day, you might want to read about the concept of Proportional Response before rationalizing the irrational and defending that which cannot be defended.
