How strong are the powers of the Congress?

They appeared rather weak yesterday, in their questioning of Hope Hicks. The one-time pants-presser for Donald Trump refused to say much of anything, claiming some sort of privilege no one had ever heard of ??

She and her White House lawyer claimed some sort of "absolute immunity"? The Congress looked weak and unprepared. They should have anticipated such an action from someone so close to the White House. They will all be even more emboldened after that performance.

Is the Congress as weak as they look? Has the Executive claimed all the power in the government? Let that question sink in for a moment.

If so, what does that mean? As a country? As a government?

What should they have done? Held her in contempt of Congress? Levied a fine of $25,000 per day until she agreed to come in and answer the questions? Also, informed in clear language that she had no "executive privilege" and she had no "absolute immunity"?

The Congress appears powerless to do anything. If they don't have the power to impeach, they have nothing.

Always protray democrats as weak and ineffective.

Our leaders keep acting weak and ineffective. Soon the public will lose all confidence in Pelosi and democrats and we will be SQUASHED like a bug in Nov 2020 as democrats will not get out and vote as they will feel it was a waste of doing so in 2018.

We are quickly approaching that point in history. Pelosi gotta release the dogs NOW

...against a very strong authoritarian leader who is willing to say anything to get his way. Lies are to be used, not discouraged.

Perhaps more Democrats need to come out in favor of impeachment? I think they are now up to 68?
