Princeton professor Eddie Glaude gave MSNBCs Stephanie Ruhle a lesson in social justice on Tuesday after she spoke out in defense of a student who was rejected by Harvard over racist remarks.
During a panel discussion on MSNBC, Glaude argued that Kyle Kashuv should face consequences for his actions, which include using the N-word and calling to kill all the f*cking Jews.
It makes sense to me that an institution like Harvard would want not to admit him to their community, Glaude said.
But if we dug into every old post or private message of every student in America, is there a risk that we could take this too far? Ruhle said, echoing a recent Fox News segment. Some people out there are saying theyre kids. Kids are kids. But that is when you accept someone into college, when theyre a teenager.

(18,770 posts)If any high school student posted white supremacy shit on their social media accounts, they should be called to account for it. It's not like he's 59 now and had spent years apologizing for his views, then it might be different. But this asscarrot doubled DOWN of his posts by saying Harvard was at fault.

(23,105 posts)At this point, the only talking heads I regularly watch are Nicole Wallace and Rachel Maddow. After drumpf, I will probably no longer watch Nicole as she is a moderate repug, not a Democrat, but Maddow will wear well for years to come IMO.

(18,486 posts)posting racist comments and calling for racial violence on social media?
And if people gave this guy a pass and then he carried out what he called for in his posts, she would be the first to demand to know, "Why didn't anyone stop him before he picked up a gun?!"

(5,124 posts)I do believe that people can be redeemed and we've all probably said and done stupid shit as teenagers. HOWEVER - There are consequences to the stupid shit. This is the consequence to your stupid shit. Harvard rescinding your acceptance. I am so sick and tired of some white folks thinking they are entitled and privileged. No you are not entitled to go to Harvard because you said you are sorry! Now go prove to yourself and your community that you have changed. You can do it at places other than Harvard.
This is bigger than kids being kids. Its about what it says to other kids that Harvard accepts. Especially the minority students. What does it say to the minority students? Does it tell them that you are willing to create a safe space for them? See this is the point that so many seem to miss in these incidents. Its bigger than the person saying I'm sorry. If I am a minority student or worker - what does it tell me? Are you willing to create a safe space for ME and people like ME??

(10,129 posts)I am saying so was the kid that murdered those at MSD HS. "Only a kid"
Perhaps not a fair comparison, but still.
she's a mom of 3, she is passionate about kid's issues.
how responsible teenagers should be held for their offenses is a big one. not at all cut and dried.
and as glaud so aptly pointed out, its about race. she didnt argue that point.

(70,120 posts)she clearly was trying to look at the other side of the question, and clearly stated that that was not her pov.

(6,799 posts)Did not see segment, but she has a tendency to search for her idea of fairness. Sounds like her major take on it was that the kid was young. What she does not think through is that those young kids grow up to be a McConnell, a tRump, a Mulvaney, and on and on. Hateful name callers seldom improve later in life.
