GOP pollster gets hilariously destroyed after blaming a broken elevator in his European hotel on 'so

Published 18 mins ago on June 18, 2019
By Brad Reed

Republican pollster Frank Luntz drew hackles from across the internet on Tuesday after he blamed a broken elevator at a hotel in Austria on “socialism.”

Writing on Twitter, Luntz complained that the elevator at the Hotel Imperial in Vienna, Austria has not been functioning for three straight days — and said that the European social welfare state was responsible for this purportedly dire situation.

“Please don’t bring European-style socialism to America,” Luntz pleaded.

In fact, the Hotel Imperial is actually owned by hotel giant Marriott, which is based in Bethesda, Maryland.

I'm going to guess not, although this is Vienna, maybe the building isn't very new and one only recently purchased by Marriott so there really is only one elevator.

And of course, we all know that elevators never break down in the good old U. S. of A.

it really needs to be done when it's first built.

Equipment can be upgraded but if there's only one shaft it's hard to build a second one. It was opened in 1873 from a palace that was converted to a hotel.

I was there as part of a business conference. The elevators were a complete nightmare. Most were out of service and the wait for one often was 15-20 minutes. It was decided then and there that we would not be returning to that hotel (or any other Trump property).

Luntz is calling a broken elevator socialism. McConnell is calling proposals to grant statehood to Puerto Rico and DC socialism. It will be popping up literally everywhere Republicans are on the wrong side of an issue. We need to be ready with not just ridicule, but rebuttal, because low information voters - the bread and butter of Republican support - will hear "socialism" and have a knee-jerk reaction. If nothing else, be ready to ask "How is a broken elevator socialism?" or "How is that (whatever "that" is in a given instance) socialism?"

...about what is and isn't socialism, the point to hammer is that they call everything "socialism".

"They're full of sh*t and it's a word they throw around to make people see red and stampede. You can't trust anything they say. If you listen to what they count as "socialism" then we spent the Cold War as a "socialist" nation. How f***ed up is that?"

I've just noticed that Republicans seem to be calling everything socialism during this cycle. In the past, socialism has been attached to single payer medical care, public school funding, and other programs where taxpayers might pool their money to provide more efficient programs with less redundancies. In a screwy way, if you squint right, and hold your mouth just so, you can see that it could be socialistic if not exactly socialism.

But now they're calling socialism for frickin' everything. Ready rebuttals and counterarguments, even the question "How is that socialism?" should be close at hand for everyone who opposes the Republican Rampaging Reign of Error.

"Bulllshit. You call everything you don't like 'socialism'."

Gotta hit that note every time so it sinks into the bystanders. They're not dazzling anybody with brilliance, they're baffling with bullshit. Always call it for what it is.

Frank Luntz was an artist, drawing hackles like that. Perhaps Trump will put some of his sketches or paintings up in the White House.

I've seen plenty of hotels in Austria, Switzerland and Germany that had no elevator at all. And several more that had a small lift for one or two people, but only the handicapped and elderly customers used it. Elevators are for wimpy Americans, the Europeans are normally happy to walk up and carry their luggage when necessary.
