The motivations are simple, the machinations less so but in the general scheme of things it isn't close to being terribly complex. It's just people using fear to manipulate others in an attempt to grab power for themselves.

In my opinion, any number of things are more intellectually stimulating than politics. History, arts, philosophy and the sciences especially involve much deeper thought, reflection and complexity of knowledge. Politics is like grammar school stuff compared to engineering and physics.

It always kills me to hear relatives who want to talk about politics like it is an extremely high-brow topic -- which I guess compared to their standard gossip, it might be -- but they just resort to the typical regurgitation of memes and talking points too common today.

People like the man pictured above might likely qualify as having some mental impairment. What he shows descends far below willful ignorance and lack of rationality.

I dare say Richard Feynman could handle politics better than Mitch McConnell could handle theoretical physics.

Stay in journalism long enough and it erases the patina from law. You discover just how many unimpressive lawyers and politicos are out there. Especially the latter group.

I have to think that maybe there is a developmental issue there so I'm gonna leave that one alone.

All that aside, I'm starting to be amazed that we now have folks voting who only know of 9/11 through history lessons or worse Internet conspiracy materials.

Heck even AOC, who is an awesome politician who is doing great things for NYC, was only ~10 years old on 9/11.

Just wait till the children of truthers start getting elected.

It sucks getting old.

Jimmy Carter, too. I also know that the only thing wrong with Carter's "malaise" speech was that he dared tell the nation the truth and people generally don't like hearing that.

had a moment of silence on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Some of the kids were being jittery and whispering amongst themselves and several teachers were getting absolutely apoplectic until they were reminded that every child on campus had been born well after those events and most were too young to have any idea what 9/11 even was.

It’s a weird feeling when your lived experiences become history.
