Donald Trump is in Orlando to announce the kickoff of his re-election campaign.
Were here to announce our endorsement for president in 2020, or, at least, who were not endorsing: Donald Trump.
Some readers will wonder how we could possibly eliminate a candidate so far before an election, and before knowing the identity of his opponent.
Because theres no point pretending we would ever recommend that readers vote for Trump.
After 2½ years weve seen enough.
Enough of the chaos, the division, the schoolyard insults, the self-aggrandizement, the corruption, and especially the lies.
So many lies from white lies to whoppers told out of ignorance, laziness, recklessness, expediency or opportunity.
Trumps capacity for lying isnt the surprise here, though the frequency is.
Its the tolerance so many Americans have for it.
There was a time when even a single lie a phony college degree, a bogus work history would doom a politicians career.

(12,157 posts)but saying Trump is a big No is good. And theyve clearly explained just why hes so objectionable on multiple fronts.

(6,448 posts)His trailer-trash deplorables don't/can't read. Those 120-lb. "dudes" with the stained wife beater shirts and MAGA caps among the southern belle Klanswomen that cheer behind Orange Julius don't care about newspapers. They know that even with a 10th grade education that non-whites are the reason for their failures.
People who can read should already know who to vote for.

(73 posts)His mishandling of Iran might well lead us to not only war but serious economic problems. Exiting out of the agreement Obama had brokered has forced some of our European friends to look for ways to get around using the US dollar so they can continue doing business with Iran. Turns out most nations don't like being bullied into being told who they can have trade deals with.
Trump has not only stacked the court system with extreme and sometimes unqualified or seemingly psychotic right wing judges, he has placed a small army of grossly unqualified people to lead Federal agencies. The damage being done here will not be easily repaired.
His inaction on climate change is going to make the situation even more difficult to deal with and will require even more drastic measures in the recent futures if we are to have any hope of mitigating the worst of the projected effects.
The short term thinking of the nationalist populist movement is going to lead to a very ugly reckoning at some point in the near future. Irresponsible behavior has consequences, most of us learn this in life the hard way. Now we are going to have to deal with a reckoning on a much larger scale. So many problems have been created I am not so sure we are going to be able to deal. I try to be optimistic but as of now I seriously wonder if there are enough rational and logical people in our country to turn the ship around.

(10,193 posts)The imbecile still hasn't realized comparing himself to JFK, and Don Jr. to JFK Jr., is sort of creepy. If he insists on doing so, he should probably stay away from Dallas come next November, and tell his son not to fly his own plane.
I wonder which one is supposed to be Bobby Kennedy...Jared? He should stay out of hotel kitchens in California. And if Eric is supposed to be Teddy, please don't drive over any rickety bridges with young campaign workers. Jeez, what will Trump come up with next?

(73 posts)..its sickening.
Dragging his Slovenian prostitute onto the stage along with his warped sociopathic children and calling it Camelot II is an atrocity.
Seriously, Trump thinks he is as good looking as JFK was and Milania has the charm of Jackie. Be best....puhlleeze.

...say no more, that says it all...
...I would like to thank the Orlando Sentinel Editorial Board for speaking the truth and taking such a strong position at this time...
...no doubt trump will pull some shenanigans from his nether regions prior to the election making it more difficult to switch horses while he muddies the waters...
...but I pray trump remains the aberration he is and does not become the new norm in our politics...
...if trumpism and trump clones are the wave of the future, then I'm resigning my membership as an active voter...

(14,174 posts)What they are saying is what everyone around the globe is hoping most Americans feel now. Even a lot of those that voted for him.
Its confusing, shocking, dumbfounding...that Trump even gets above 30% approval. This vile petty boor of a man. I think its clear that the main reason they still like him is he is the ultimate "libtard" troller. He's king of the land and no one can tell him not to speak. No longer is hate speech restricted to spewing it on YouTube and other messages threads in anonymity only to get their butts kicked by some liberal armed with those evil commie "facts", they now have their top Troll on the job. They wanted and got...the ultimate troll to do the only thing that is important to them, not jobs, not security, not decency, but ridiculing Democrats, and other liberals, and media personalities. A lot of that hunger was developed and nurtured on RW talk radio that dominates middle America.
And that is a sickness. So many voting against their best interests solely in order to have a real bully occupy the bully's pulpit. So they can get back at Democrats for all those years of criminal and corruption that the RW media have been graciously keeping them informed of over the last few decades.

(54,407 posts)There hasn't been a US Senator who has wrought more evil on our land since Joe McCarthy of Wisconsin.
MCarthy was finally called out in public for having no decency. He faded and died in disgrace.
McConnell and Trump revel in having no decency, and a third of the country cheers them on. How far we have fallen.
