President Carter was the best man to hold the office of the presidency during my lifetime. The olgarchs hated him and tore him down from the 2nd he was nominated, but he brought a caring and strong committment to do not harm to the job more thany anyone before or after. He is revered in South America and should be here too.

I wonder how different life would be if Reagan hadn't committed treason to keep the hostages held until Reagan was elected. The world would be in a much better place...

the ill fated rescue mission was a desperate gamble.

compare with Reagan who arranged for the hostages to be held until they were used as props at his inauguration.

How did a man with such honor and integrity get caught up in the dirty business of politics? The gop tore him apart, just as they do any democratic president. President Carter is well respected worldwide. tRump is like a dirty joke worldwide. Crass, uneducated, no soul, no integrity. Empty vessel.

is something that MANY in the Dem party did at the time as I recall.

With "friends" like them, it is no wonder that Raygun sailed right into office.

And no, we did NOT deserve him. He was much too good for us.

carter may have been the most decent and honorable person to have ever served as president.

the timing of being president during stagflation and the hostage crisis was most unfortunate. any president during that time would have been a one-termer. interesting to ponder what might have happened had reagan won in 1976 (he narrowly lost the republican nomination to ford).

of course, both those problems were really created by previous presidents. the iran problems were really created by eisenhower's support for the coup that installed the shah, combined with subsequent u.s. policy to support the shah; the stagflation was created in no small part due to nixon and ford's inept handling of inflation (although some of the blame does go to opec as well). nixon treated wage and price controls and did it quite poorly, and ford simply handed out "whip inflation now" buttons.

When they were doing the mission planning, they told the president, “we need x number of helicopters to make the mission work, so we’re taking y number.”

“Add another one,” President Obama ordered.

“Mr. President, we’ve done all the planning. Y is more than enough for the mission.”

“Add another one.”

“Mr. President, with all due respect you don’t know what you’re talking about. Y is plenty.”

“I’m not approving the mission until you agree to add another one.”

They added another one just to shut President Obama up...and it turned out that if they wouldn’t have taken it the mission would have failed.

But if President Carter, the best man we ever had as President, reads these posts I promise you he would give you a short sermon on not holding hate in your heart (even hate directed at Reagan).

I am 76 years old, been active in politics since I heard Sam Rayburn give a speech to our graduating HS class in 1960. I've seen a lot, worked as an aide to a Congressman, was a Democratic candidate for the state legislature. (I lost). Have been a political junkie ever since.

But memories from all those years fade in comparison to the 2 saddest memories which I remember in minute detail. The assassination of JFK and the announcement at 10 minutes after 7PM, NBC announced they were calling Ronald Reagan the winner of the election (hours before polls had closed west of Central time).

If those 2 events had not happened what a different world we would be living in.
