A N.H. woman allegedly shoved her golden retriever off a dock and then watched as it drowned

https://www.boston.com/news/crime/2019/06/17/nancy-bucciarelli-dog-drowning-merrimack

MERRIMACK, N.H. (AP) — Police say a New Hampshire woman is charged with shoving her golden retriever off a dock and standing by while the pet drowned.

Merrimack Police Chief Denise Roy called the incident earlier this month “disturbing.” Sixty-six-year-old Nancy Bucciarelli was arrested Friday on a misdemeanor animal cruelty charge.

Witnesses said Bucciarelli stood by and watched on June 8 as her 11-year-old dog struggled in Naticook Lake in Merrimack, New Hampshire. Others jumped into the lake to help, but it was too late.

Bucciarelli didn’t respond to a message left at her home on Sunday, and it’s unclear if she has a lawyer. She is due to appear in court later this month."

How can anyone be so EVIL! That poor dog! I just can't get my mind around this level of cruelty. I hope she is prosecuted to the full extent of the law. What a horrible person.

They should not be able to have a pet/ animals. If you are an animal owner, it is your job to take care of them! If you can no longer take care of them, take them to a shelter or animal sanctuary were they will be taken care of. I don't understand this type of person, and I really don't want to understand them!

That's her "I'm a better person than you" answer when I say I hate people.

She doesn't hate people simply because she keeps herself so cloistered from truth, just like many church-going Republicans.

There are truly evil people in the world, people we must be ready to confront in order to protect innocent animals and innocent people.

The "Hear no, See No Evil" may work for you, but DU wouldn't exist if we took that stance about all evils of the world.

Saying that, I still understand where you're coming from. If there were not laws and consequences, I know I could truly "end" people who hurt innocent animals. I love animals more than most people.

You can pretty much avoid reading any posts on DU you don't like, by not opening DU.

If you forego the internet altogether, and don't look at any newspapers or magazines, you can avoid reading even more stuff. And definitely stay away from books.....those things have all kinds of disturbing words in them.

If you follow my advice, you'll never, ever, have to read something you don't like again.

Most likely the dog was arthritic and not able to swim at that age. I don't know any further details. Usually Retrievers are very good swimmers, but my guess is this dog was not well to begin with.

The dog, Bailey, had cancer throughout his body. His owner loved him very much and took him swimming because he had always loved the water. Nancy, the owner, helped him off the dock into the water, but Bailey collapsed and sank. Nancy was hysterical and begged for help. An officer at the scene asked her if she had purposely drowned her dog to avoid paying for him to be euthanized, and this is the account that has been publicized. Apparently this woman is doubly traumatized, by the sudden death of Bailey and by the very public vilification of her.

she couldn't have saved him, without even endangering herself. She will have her day in court later this month, and if she was in fact hysterical and begging for help, and not callously ignoring the dog's desperate plight, I would imagine the witnesses at the scene will say as much.

I would really hope that is the case. My friend's dad became afraid of the family pet, though he never lashed out at it and the poor dog seemed to understand when to keep his distance and when his old pal did remember him and he could come close.

And just how can this only be a misdemeanor if she is in her "right" mind?

You have, no doubt, some reason to vigorously defend this woman but any decent dog owner would have jumped in and helped the dog out of the water. She didn’t feel a minute of remorse until the weight of public opinion fell hard on her. She was trying to save the $75 euthanasia fee - something her hero Trump would do.
