Why do I assume the people who cry "Why didn't we do something?" are the same ones who keep voting for Republicans?

(20,219 posts)Sorry for screaming! I cant help myself. I got banned from DU last decade for bringing up population! People just couldnt handle the topic. Theyd go ballistic, but Id get slapped and then finally booted.

(63,221 posts)Why do people have such a problem discussing it? It is a real problem. The current level of population growth is not sustainable on a planet with finite resources and dwindling opportunities to make a living. It just isn't.

(63,221 posts)It needs to be addressed. The problem is that most of the extreme population growth is coming from third-world countries, where women are not empowered or equal, but to address population growth in those countries looks like racism or colonialism to many liberals.
Having many children is also a drain on family resources, and the cycle just perpetuates itself when those children need to go work instead of getting educated. Freeing the women from being constantly pregnant and engaged in child-rearing allows them to contribute to the household economically as well.

(9,897 posts)The myth for years has been that climate change was decades away from serious impact that was and still is bullshit. If your area is not already impacted, within 10 to 15 months it will be...
Climate refugees are going to be slaughtered by the BILLIONS in the next 10-15 years so if that is what was meant by the effects, I will concede the point...

The real horrors are already baked in...its only a matter of time before the worst imaginable human crisis is on TV for us and reality for the poor who will die in the beginning of the end.

(8,930 posts)thinking that it is no longer "if" it will happen but a matter of "when". The hurricanes in eastern North Carolina where I live just seem to be getting more frequent and more damaging as time marches on, and I can't afford the cost of my home being flooded out. I just have this bad feeling its coming to my neighborhood eventually so its time to protect myself, at least financially.
