Runner's WorldThe politicians passion for fitness made headlines for the first time in 2013, when she became the first sitting member of Congress to complete an Ironman triathlon, according to Triathlete.com. Since then, Sinema, who splits her time between Phoenix, Arizona, and Washington, D.C., has finished many more triathlonsincluding the New Zealand Ironman earlier this spring, where she set a PR of 12:59:58as well as road races ranging from half to full marathons.
At this latest race in Southern California, she shaved more than 31 minutes off her previous marathon PR and placed in the top 20 of her age division.
Just two weeks before she BQd, Sinema finished first for women at the ACLI Capital Challengea three-mile race for members of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government, plus media staffalong the Anacostia River in Washington, D.C. Sinemas time, 20:45, not only made her the fastest female lawmaker, but also set the course record for women (the previous record, 22:41, was held by former Republican Representative Jean Schmidt of Ohio).

(50,560 posts)According to https://www.baa.org/2019-boston-marathon-qualifier-acceptances, they got so many entrants in 2019 they had to pare the field by only accepting people who ran 4:52 faster than the qualifying standard.
If they have to do that in 2020, Senator Sinema's 3:28:17 is more than fast enough to get her in the show.
