(63,912 posts)it's fine that it is named for John's father and grandfather. But I am a bit unsettled by it...our culture and making money...but I suppose it wouldn't be so awful to merchandise their fame...

(32,086 posts)This hat looks like such an item. It doesn't look like an "official" Navy hat. Most likely it's the creation friends or family members of those serving on the ship. You can get a wide variety of USS Gabrielle Giffords paraphernalia, too. No hats, however. But, that's probably just a matter of time. I'm sure every other ship in the Navy has stuff represented there, too.

(22,822 posts)Besides being a war hawk, his stance on financial de-regulation led to more than one economic crisis. Have you ever heard of the Savings and Loan scandal?
The Lincoln Savings collapse led to the Keating Five political scandal, in which five U.S. senators were implicated in an influence-peddling scheme. It was named for Charles Keating, who headed Lincoln Savings and made $300,000 as political contributions to them in the 1980s. Three of those senators, Alan Cranston (DCA), Don Riegle (DMI), and Dennis DeConcini (DAZ), found their political careers cut short as a result. Two others, John Glenn (DOH) and John McCain (RAZ), were rebuked by the Senate Ethics Committee for exercising "poor judgment" for intervening with the federal regulators on behalf of Keating.
Lincoln Savings and Loan collapsed in 1989, at a cost of $3.4 billion to the federal government (and thus taxpayers). Some 23,000 Lincoln bondholders were defrauded and many investors lost their life savings.
