Scott Alan Buss thinks public education is a satanic plot, that the Pope and Donald Trump are both anti-Christs and that concerns over the spread of measles is nothing but government propaganda.

And get this: Tennessee House Speaker Glen Casada is using your money to pay him $53,000 a year to help influence state policy.

In addition to his state job, Buss also says he's the Tennessee state director for Capitol Ministries, which reaches out to lawmakers through prayer groups.

As The Friendly Atheist points out, Capitol Ministries does not just "reach out to lawmakers", its leader Ralph Dollinger runs a bible study group for the Cabinet:

Vice-President Mike Pence. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos. Energy Secretary Rick Perry. Attorney General Jeff Sessions. The list goes on.

In total, 10 cabinet members are "sponsors" of the group. Not everyone attends every meeting - they are busy people - but they go if they can.

Legislators could be called to return to Nashville by the end of June for the House of Representatives to elect a new speaker, a solution one of the chamber's top Republicans is asking the governor to get behind.

House Majority Leader William Lamberth, R-Portland, said Thursday that upon House Speaker Glen Casada's return to the office Monday from his European vacation, the chamber's Republican leaders would begin holding meetings with the embattled speaker.

A legislative staffer known around the Capitol as a “hall monitor” for House Speaker Glen Casada is no longer employed by the state, making him the third member of the embattled Republican leader’s inner circle to depart this month.
