House Speaker Nancy Pelosis call Saturday for a country blessed with unity was punctuated with cries of Impeach! from the crowd at the California Democratic Partys convention in San Francisco, highlighting the rifts plaguing even her own party.
Speaking to an enthusiastic crowd at the Moscone Center, the San Francisco Democrat pledged to keep the heat on President Trump.
We will go where the facts lead us. ... President Trump will be held accountable for his actions in the Congress, in the courts and in the court of public opinion, she said, while also promising, We will strive to unify, not divide, our country as we protect and defend it.
Pelosi has steadfastly insisted on sticking with House inquiries into the Trump administration on several fronts before launching any impeachment proceedings. She has left open the possibility of such proceedings, but has shown little enthusiasm for them.
In an appearance before the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco this week, Pelosi pushed back against growing Democratic calls for impeachment, saying that any evidence for removing the president has to be clear to the Senate as well. The Senate, which unlike the House is controlled by Republicans, is unlikely to convict Trump.

(23,002 posts)it may be time to try some newer, hungrier blood. Disappointing bc I WANT to believe Nancy has the answers. I think inevitably, we all get old. Stress and pressure age us even quicker. I think she's doing the best she can, but, it's starting to be....well....too much for me. I have never seen such blatant corruption in govt in my entire life. BOLD TOUGH measures need to happen. Or Ds who haven't stopped him may be open for Amash type opponents from the right wing come 2020. Then, we're fucked.

(23,002 posts)arent mutually exclusive. LOTS of other just as beautiful people in congress say different. Maxine and others. This happened after Bush/Cheney. We are where we are. I'm hoping for the best, but, we all are whistling past the graveyard if we don't consider options. After all, it's only America, and 340 million people, and the fate of Democracies world wide if trump isnt taken down somehow. We owe it to every Democracy we installed world-wide, to keep our options open. I resent it, that you make me out to somehow be a liar bc I have a nuanced position.

(16,439 posts)You said you love love love Pelosi but then went on to list what you perceive as her faults. Shes too old. Shes lost a step mentally and so on, without offering a scintilla of evidence to support your position beyond being mad at her because she sees impeachment differently than you do.
But you love love love her? With all due respect thats not nuanced, its disingenuous.
You dont like Pelosi and thats fine. We all dont have to like the same people.

(23,002 posts)to be factored in. I think she's kicked ass for a lot of years. I'm really not interested in going round and round w you about it. I said what I said. i love the lady. I have supported her for a long time. I still do. You and I don't agree, and you seem to want to make things I say personally derogatory towards an honorable lady. This is where I ignore folks. We are all under stress. I don't need to play word games w you today I guess. Good day.
