How did the greatest democracy in the world get here? (Original Post) Soph0571 Jun 2019 OP
That's easy. 40% of the USA are racists and bigots and they think this is great. Mars and Minerva Jun 2019 #1
Quite true. If Americans were not this way, there would be no support for Trump! Quite pathetic. n/t RKP5637 Jun 2019 #2

Some are rabid and others just feel a little better about themselves when others suffer.

It's not just White Christians. I have a client who is Jewish and his wife is Black. They are avid Trump supporters because they hate immigrants from Central America and China.

The problem isn't Trump, the GOP or Foxnews. Democracy got like this because of Americans.

.

One of the objectives of fascists is to make people work incessantly to provide for their families, to the point where they no longer have free time to protest, read up on the current state of affairs, participate in government proceedings, etc.

Now, people are either working multiple jobs, longer hours and often work at a faster pace. They are tired when going home, and then they are more prone to accept bullshit about takers, especially when they go after people who suffer from the same economic condition they are experiencing.

phone bank and vote. Work and worry didn't turn any of my friends into Foxnews sheeple. I'm tired of excusing these assholes. Giving them free time isn't going to enlighten them. They need to be run over by a really big golf cart.

In retrospect, we will say that America was intentionally running under an unconstitutional premise, holding back anyone that didn't fit into a dominate white male culture. Simply, we were a nation of hypocrites.

... who looked the other way and quietly supported Hitler in the 1930's.

Just as an explanation, none of the "good German" Hitler supporters of the 1930's had any idea that there would be a Holocaust or even a World War II. They just believed that communism was their biggest threat and they didn't protest when all their troubles got blamed on the Jews. Hitler provided the answers and it became so easy to just go along. Nobody turned over any rocks to see the creepy-crawlies underneath. Yes it is hypocrisy, but also fear combined with the delusion that easy answers are also the correct ones.

Brought us right-wing talk radio and Fox News, which over decades, created a generation of very angry, white older males.
