Sorry to be a proud dad ... but this is what one of my kids has been doing for awhile now....

It's called Ascent Abort 2

They're at Kennedy getting ready to launch this thing. What it is is a test of the system that if the rocket fails during launch while the Orion is on top with astronauts in it, it will pull away and land them safely.

(I have some better pix on FB but can't figure out how to post.)

If this is a success, the hope is that it will never have to be used.




He and his crew have been working their butts off and the launch is scheduled for July.

The closest one of my kids got to Kennedy was when I took him on a tour.

When he saw the Vette behind the ropes, he asked: What would you do if I jumped the ropes, hotwired the car and drove off.

Me: Jump the guard so he couldn't stop you.
