their stormy marriage and her subsequent marriage to Richard Holbrooke, who died suddenly in 2011. Fascinating book, altho I hate to tell you Jennings comes across as being a mean spirited husband to her, altho they maintained a good relationship after their breakup as their two kids were growing up. She doesn't trash him, but says he had real problems dealing with the fact that she was better educated than he was, which could have been a real issue in his life...

He was pretty smug and self-righteous. Pompous, too. Now he's just a self-important old fart. And his articulation isn't so good anymore. Sometimes I find myself wondering if he's had a few before he goes on camera as the presiding emeritus figure. I'm sure he flatters himself as some sort of self-anointed "elder statesman of news."

Length of effective action of medications, for example, uses half-life as a measurement.

Half-life simply refers to the time it takes for 50% of any given substance to dissolve, wear away, evaporate, become inactive, etc.

Once 50% of a given whole is gone, half-life measures the 50% decrease of the remainder, and so on, and so on...

Most of them are. One way to tell is when they start saying things (such as Brokaw said to Tweety yesterday)

"Both sides have launched negative campaigns"

Which of course is all bullshit. One of the techniques these "tools" like is to poison both wells. Fouling the Democrats with the poison from the GOP they can then declare. "all politicians are crooks".

Tools are the mainstay of MSN. No major market can claim to be completely free of them. In fact MSNBC has compromised members as well. They're not nearly as bad or obvious as Fox or even CNN but they're there.

Even Amy Goodman has been compromised. There are certain extremely important subjects she refuses to bring up.

Dan Rather was a tool most of his life though towards the end of his career at CBS he straddled the fence more and more often. Sometimes doing the bidding of his corporate masters, other times being independent. 49 years after the fact Rather still refuses to acknowledge that he was coerced into stating the huge LIE that President Kennedy was killed by a shot from the rear. Rather was the ONLY news man to watch the Zapruder film for some 13 years. Until it was released on the Geraldo Rivera Show back in 1976. Even today Dan Rather will not touch this subject.

Cenk Uygur is more honest than the rest. The reason MSNBC had to fire him.

I give Rachel Maddow a free pass for being so soft on the Military Industrial Complex. I know in her heart she'd love to scream the truth but them she'd lose her job too.

Each must compromise his/her integrity at times but Tom Brokaw is a worthless toad. A total run of the mill, milk toast journalist.

but I don't blame her for running. I've had my phone tapped and e-mail read by "them". Have seen them interrogate my neighbors about me too. The attention is not flattering

"They" are very scary types and yet at the same time pitiful. When "they" killed Gary Webb the poor coroner was forced to explain how a man can shoot himself in the head twice with a revolver. Glad I don't have his job. I mean just LOOK AT POOR GARY!

(Warning! Not for the faint of heart. Shows corpse of Gary Webb)

But we can relax. Assassinations are becoming less and less their fare in the U.S. Instead they contract hundreds of thousands of character assassins to run internet forums.

And you were worried about a few tea party types masquerading as Democrats here on D/U? Hah!

and if you're as new here as your post-count is low, welcome to DU!

Rachel is a product of the military, grew up that way and served herself too, which probably has something to do with it. And you're right bout Rather, he was mostly a tool. There are some interesting anecdotes about him in Norman Solomon's book Unreliable Sources. I like Rather more than most of the other MSM, but that's just a relative statement and shows how compromised most of them are, and have been for many many years. Amy Goodman and Cenk are pretty good, not MSM though.

I read upthread that Brokaw was the main person behind pushing Keith out of MS-NBC, somehow I had missed that, another reason to rec this thread!
