"SNIP....

“Lawyers for President Donald Trump have reached an agreement with the House Intelligence and Financial Services committees to hold off for now on enforcing the subpoenas for Trump’s financial records from Deutsche Bank and Capital One, according to a court document and a source familiar with the agreement,” CNN reports.

“Similar to a deal reached earlier this week with the House Oversight committee, the agreement allows for an expedited appeal schedule.”

Trumps people weren't granted a stay for appeal. Why, as the Committee, simply hand them basically a stay ... of their own accord?

Get those damn docs as quick as you can AFAIC. If you have to return them later due to a successful appeal, so be it. Once you have them you basically have WAY more power than if you don't.

So ... what did Democrats gain by just handing this to Trump? Just getting to look like cool guys, the one's being nice, or?

Since there was no stay given, I'd have been on the phone to the bank telling them to get the records ready for pick up first thing next business day.

I suppose, though, Dems are confident the judge's decision will be upheld. There was even speculation that the lead DC Circuit judge for appeal would, in a great bit or irony, be Merrick Garland.

Maxine Waters also said late last week on Hayes' show, iirc, that her committee staff already had many documents that they hadn't completely reviewed yet.

This deal makes no sense. I don't under why they would make this deal. They won. The court refused the stay pending appeal.

Why give trump any ground at all? So very disappointing.

I would expect Team Trump had to surrender steps in the process.

Otherwise, Trump's lawyers could have dragged it out for weeks, even months.

It's the smart move by Congressional lawyers. They know what they're doing.

And, yes. Most legal observers DO expect Trump's courtroom lawyers (as opposed to his TV lawyers like Giuliani and Sekulow) to operate in good faith - unlike the yahoos we've been hearing from, these lawyers are under the tight rein of the judge and they're going to operate differently.

Everyone needs to take a breath.
