Shit: One Of My Personal Email Account Was Breeched--Here's How To Check, Plus Temp Email.

.

Go to the following website and enter your email account. It checks all known vulnerabilities and breeches.

https://haveibeenpwned.com/

Also, if you need to register or a one-time use website and don't want to use your own email, here's one to use:

https://10minutemail.com/10MinuteMail/index.html provides free, anonymous, secure, temporary email accounts.

Why?

Why would you use this? Maybe you want to sign up for a site which requires that you provide an e-mail address to send a validation e-mail to. And maybe you don't want to give up your real e-mail address and end up on a bunch of spam lists. This is nice and disposable. And it's free. Enjoy!

The accounts are completely secure, you are the only one with access to your emails. The emails and address itself expire in 10 minutes.

This site can help you avoid spam and losing your privacy! Enjoy!!

Your email account will be at the bottom, in green, next to the countdown clock.

I went to open a twitter account the other day and found out someone else had used my email address. Someone in Mexico. There were no actual tweets on there and the account was suspended. I wondered why in heck someone would need to use another person's email for twitter. You can easily create your own email address on yahoo.

I communicate with them through their secure websites.

I go to the web site directly, not thru the link in the email...
I just got one from PayPal..."please update your phone number for two factor identification"
Hummm . I went to Paypal website and they already had my phone for two factor ident.
Phishing scam... It looked and "smelled" real..

to go into your email options and check if they have also arranged to have your incoming emails forwarded to another account.
Yahoo gave me little help when I was hacked and a phony email purporting to be from me begging for money sent to all my contacts. In fact, they sent a letter threatening to close my account. I was also referred to a tech I would have to pay.
You can get some info by parsing your headers and footers.
Not sure what is now a good site to enter this info.
Thanks for your info, Black Adder.
Sorry this happened to you.

I get email from a legitimate outfit that says that it wants to validate my email. These are for song sites, like iTunes (won't have anything to do with Apple!) or gamer sites. I immediately go in, change the password to "GoFuckYourself" or something like that, then shut down the account. Or, if there's a way to gripe to the website, I inform them that someone has used my email to sign up for an account without my knowledge or permission.

If you've got an email address that is easy to say to other people and have them remember it, you can't avoid this. I could have some ungodly combination of letters, numbers, and symbols for an email address, but even I'd have trouble remembering it!
