President Donald Trump has granted Attorney General William Barr new powers to review and potentially release classified information related to the origins of the Russia investigation, a move aimed at accelerating Barr’s inquiry into whether U.S. officials improperly surveilled Trump’s 2016 campaign.

Trump on Thursday directed the U.S. intelligence community to “quickly and fully cooperate” with Barr’s investigation of the origins of the multiyear probe of whether his campaign colluded with Russia.

Two of Trump’s congressional allies, Reps. Mark Meadows and Jim Jordan, were seen by reporters earlier Thursday at the Justice Department.

If anyone wants to declassify more information that clarifies the meaning of whatever Barr chose to declassify they won’t be able to. Because that’s up to the President or Bill Barr.

I don't get the impression they ever enjoy being anyone's political tool. And even if many hold conservative biases (whether conscious or unconscious), a good many (and this is from personal experience) see themselves as hard-working and dedicated law enforcement professional with a belief that the system is supposed to work.

The Barr/Trump plan only works if they successfully smear, malign and destroy the careers of some of these people. That's going to create a backlash. A backlash among those in the government who know where every body is buried and have all the tools for digging up dirty secrets (And probably have a treasure trove they usually sit upon for national security reasons).
