Controversial lawyer Michael Avenatti was indicted Wednesday in separate cases charging him with stealing about $300,000 from his former porn star client Stormy Daniels, and with trying to extort athletic shoe giant Nike out of tens of millions of dollars by threatening to go public with embarassing information about the company.
Prosecutors claim that Avenatti ripped off Daniels by taking payments for her book sales and paying her just half of what she was owed. The indictment accuses him of spending some of the money he allegedly swindled from Daniels on a lease payment for his Ferrari, travel expenses, dry cleaning and $56,000 in payroll at his law firm.
Avenatti also faces an unrelated indictment in federal court in California on charges of ripping off clients and tax crimes. He gained notoriety last year for his full-throated representation of porn star Stormy Daniels in her lawsuits against President Donald Trump and his former personal lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen.

(7,398 posts)1. I think most were just glad that he was a thorn in Trump's arse. Never was any realistic chance for
him to become a strong candidate until he was vetted through a primary system. I was glad to see him standing up to Trump, but never considered him a viable candidate. Some did I guess, but there were always questions and a long time remained to get answers. That's kinda why I haven't gone to the Democratic Primaries thread yet. Lots of time to see who is who.

he could have become at least a Senator if all these allegations are true.

He made the same mistake Trump did. He figured he could step into the spotlight, but still keep his ugly side out of view.
I always figured he was a grifter. He had that feel to him. I feel for Ms Daniels. Sounds like Avenatti swindled her for a lot of money.
