(82,849 posts)The justice system is set up to protect companies like Bayer. Sure, there can be suspicious clusters of disease all around an allegedly harmful product, but proving that the product caused the specific disease in a specific person? That's another kettle of horses of a different color altogether. Lead, asbestos, tobacco and other deadly industries have a very heavy thumb.

The jurors said the plaintiffs experts Dr. Dennis Weisenburger and Dr. Christopher Portier seemed more reliable than Monsantos Dr. Levine, because they studied pesticides and cancer.
Evidence laid out in the three trials included numerous scientific studies that showed what plaintiffs attorneys said was proof Monsantos herbicides can cause non-Hodgkin lymphoma. As well, the attorneys presented jurors with many internal Monsanto communications obtained through court-ordered discovery that show Monsanto has intentionally manipulated the public record to hide the cancer risk.

(9,099 posts)you can't give a billion dollars to each person affected. The company would go bust and then thousands would never get compensation.

(8,722 posts)instead of having thousands of cases go to court. I think a two billion dollar award is a big wake up call for Bayer. The plaintiff's attorneys said it was a message to Bayer to change their companies practices. Actually, the plaintiffs attorneys laid out numerous scientific studies proving Roundup can cause non-Hodgkins lymphoma.

(46,338 posts)People get cancer.
There are things out there that DO cause cancer.
Plutonium.
Asbestos.
Tobacco.
But what about those who had cancer, who had fleeting contact at MOST with Roundup, like me?
I had protate cancer.
Should I sue Bayer?
Or should I sue the toilet paper maker, of the TP I use?
Juries do not use science.
They go on emotions.
And science says Roundup if PROPERLY used, doesn't cause cancer.
But sheister lawyers are out in force, bombing ads all over radio, TV, e-mail and social media.
