so much, it will take decades to get it back, if at all? I grew up in a time where all we had worry about was be home before dark! Now days, our own government keeps us in the dark and is destroying our legacy as a country. Trump, his goons and along with the GOPer's have made a mockery out of our constitution. If we don't stop them? I would hate to see what the future of our rights, beliefs and the way way we live our lives will be.

(249 posts)People had no problem calling people like me a "nigger."
Chickens are coming home to roost.
That's why it tickles me to no end to see mixed race messaging on television commercials.
It must seriously activate the residual lynching DNA in many white folk.

(5,422 posts)without the jim crow. as for the "lynching dna," the bright side of "activating" it is its visibility.

(13,804 posts)I was stating an opinion on the constitution and the GOP's way of ruling the country to their benefit.

(249 posts)but America hasn't been this "Great Thing" for lots of people who aren't the right kind of white.
Hell, even certain types of swarthy whites got the same treatment.

The advent of civil rights helped a bit, but it also
set in process a bitter reactive process that has led
to where we are now..
I believe that extinction events will make all this moot.
Either we all get our act together stat and take care
of environmental problems or the angry dumbed down
racists take us all down with them ....

(21,108 posts)albeit, without the word that I wont say. No, getting home before dark was not the only thing we had to worry about. We have always been a racially divided country. And, when I grew up, going into the military and dodging bullets and bombs was NOT an OPTION, unless you were in a rich family, ie, cadat bone spurs.
Make America Great Again was ALWAYS a slogan that made me gag at best, and angry all the time. If I were a candidate, I would be tempted to have a slogan that stated Make America Great for Everyone, MAGE. In BLUE, of course. Even if its not a a great slogan, it is MY mindset.

(25,865 posts)It's a quote from a movie that I put up every so often when one of those threads about posting a quote pops up. No one every seems to know what it's from or perhaps care.
But it's the single most prescient line ever. The first time I heard it I almost fell out of my chair.
And every year it becomes more and more prescient.

(136 posts)The racism, misogyny, violence, willful ignorance and plain stupidity of a large % of the american public was always known to me (thanks dad!). I'm really liking the new generations (I'm gen x, the backwash of the boomers)and actually feel more optimistic now about my fellow humans than ever before. The ability of millennials to talk instead of fight is awesome and it is comforting and inspiring to learn from them.
