Hamberder question for Hoosiers....or....anyone else

Back in the 1970's I spent a few years in Bloomington, IN, At one point I was working west of town and there was this little hamburger joint I would stop at for lunch on the way to work second shift. They threw a round ball of ground beef on a large flat griddle and smashed it down while also cooking the onions. Eventually they would serve it all, however you wanted it in a paper bag if you wanted take out. Sometimes I just ate it there.
Does anyone know if this is what we now know as "Smashburger," cuz if so I want some…..

I have absolutely no idea what forum to put this in, Wouldn't be the first time. But those things were damn good.

For some reason I am rembering "W. Gordon Pike"....might be off.

When people ask me what I miss about living in Bloomington, I always answer Hinkle's hamburgers and the gyros at The Trojan Horse. Mrs Loblaw and I always liked the way the staff at Hinkle's would playfully abuse the regulars.

It also didn't hurt to leave your clothes in the garage to air out for a while after visiting there.
