Attorney General William Barr is scheduled to testify before the House Judiciary Committee next Thursday on special counsel Robert Muellers investigation, the panel announced Thursday.
Barrs appearance, which is public, will offer lawmakers on the Democratic-led panel to grill him on his handling of Muellers final report, as well as the special counsels findings on Russian interference and potential obstruction of justice by President Trump.
The attorney general's House testimony, which had been expected, will come one day after he appears before the GOP-chaired Senate Judiciary Committee to answer questions on the same topic.
Barr released a redacted version of Muellers sprawling 448-page report last Thursday, roughly three weeks after summarizing the special counsels principal conclusions in a four-page letter to Congress. Democrats have relentlessly criticized Barr for painting what they see as a biased portrait of Muellers findings.
They have demanded he provide Muellers full report and underlying evidence to Congress. House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) issued a subpoenaed for those documents on Friday, demanding the Justice Department comply by May 1 one day before his scheduled testimony.

(51,615 posts)A fellow DUer mentioned it two weeks ago and it made sense. We know Barr will lie, or at least not tell the whole truth, so it is better to let him lie under oath then ask Mueller the same questions and follow up for the real story.

(33,345 posts)He'll not cede one inch to Congress. He'll just blatantly lie and deny, and there will be no consequences.
The President Asshole Administration's bullying is exposing the glaring weakness in the Constitution: it's all based on the Honor System.
They're daring Congress to prove they can do something about it. So far, the results appear to be: if they can, it will take a lot of time, and the courts might be stacked.

(1,835 posts)Actually suggested that Barr testify before Mueller. It is their preference here. Get his lies on the record before RM testifies.
