Tennessee bill that would penalize groups for incomplete voter registration forms passes Senate

A controversial bill that has received national attention over criticism that it would criminalize voter registration efforts was approved in the state Senate on Thursday.

The legislation would require groups leading voter registration drives to undergo training and potentially face fines for submitting too many incomplete forms.

If the bill is enacted, Tennessee would become the first state to threaten voter registration efforts with civil penalties for incomplete forms.

Opponents have questioned its intentions, given the bill's introduction months after an effort to register more African American voters and people of color during the 2018
midterm elections.

Sure, but when is a bill that places the same restrictions on firearm permits going to pass? ProudLib72 Apr 2019 #2

Republicans had such a smashing success in killing ACORN, which did a good job of registering voters. Why wouldn't they come back to crush voter registration efforts in 2019?

Want to see Republicans howl? Introduce legislation that puts the same restrictions and penalties on applications for firearm permits.
