@realDonaldTrump
The Mueller Report, despite being written by Angry Democrats and Trump Haters, and with unlimited money behind it ($35,000,000), didnt lay a glove on me. I DID NOTHING WRONG. If the partisan Dems ever tried to Impeach, I would first head to the U.S. Supreme Court. Not only......

(18,837 posts)I think we all expected a victory lap, regardless of what appeared in the report (we got one)
I think we all expected Trump to deny and attack anything that didn't praise Dear Leader in the report (he did)
It seems like the MAGAts bought the Don & Bill (Barr) show lock, stock, and barrel.
The rest of the country? Not so much. Approval dropped to 39%. You don't win re-election with a 39% approval rating and only a third of all voters in your pocket.

(18,837 posts)Dean Wormer, "Animal House," with his "Double SECRET Probation."
Mueller laid out evidence of TEN obstruction charges in his report.
Trump obstructed the Mueller investigation, and now he's obstructing the investigation of his obstruction.
But we need to wait until we have all of the facts. We have to call back everyone who testified to Mueller to ask them to repeat what they told him.
We have to beg Steve Mnuchin for Trump's taxes, when we know damned well he'll sit out the deadline he chose for his "response," and once again, the response will be "up yours."
We're playing a game that can't be won as long as Trump's response to every attempt to perform checks and balances on his is met with "kiss this."
If impeachment is the only route remaining...even if McConnell will squash it in the Senate...what options do we really have? I understand the logic of "get the information into the hands of voters ahead of 2020 and let them vote him out," but let's say we do that and he wins anyway? Do we really want to ride off the cliff for six more years?
He's going to play dirty, he's going to lie, he's going to "rally his base" no matter what we do. So what can we do that will result in the greatest chance of having this end in two years. rather than six?

(45,003 posts)Yes, yes, yes, yes. And Wikipedia defines the Other as:
"The charge of high crimes and misdemeanors covers allegations of misconduct by officials, such as perjury of oath, abuse of authority, bribery, intimidation, misuse of assets, failure to supervise, dereliction of duty, unbecoming conduct, refusal to obey a lawful order, chronic intoxication, and tax evasion."

(1,660 posts)"The charge of high crimes and misdemeanors covers allegations of misconduct by officials, such as perjury of oath..."
Check.
"abuse of authority..."
Check.
"bribery..."
Undetermined.
But seriously, folks...what reasonable person would put this past him at this point...?
"intimidation..."
Check.
"misuse of assets"
Check.
"failure to supervise..."
Check.
"dereliction of duty..."
Check.
Although, I'll concede that Congressional Republicans are more guilty of this "crime" than Trump is.
"unbecoming conduct..."
Check. Many times over.
"refusal to obey a lawful order..."
Check.
"chronic intoxication..."
Undetermined.
Personally, I think his behavior is borne from dementia myself, but shit...one has to wonder....
"...and tax evasion."
Undetermined.
This is probably the charge Trump fears the most. Note how the closer investigators get to the truth on this point, the more the Orange Nut lashes out. It's not a coincidence...

You dont even have to be convicted of a crime to lose your job (as president) in this constitutional republic if this body determines your conduct as a public official is clearly out of bounds in your role, Graham says of Clinton in the nearly 20-year-old clip.

(56,828 posts)SCOTUS involvement in the impeachment process is that the Chief Justice presides over the proceedings, but only presides over them.
Miles Archer
(18,837 posts)https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/17/us/politics/how-the-impeachment-process-works-trump-clinton.html
First, the House of Representatives votes on one or more articles of impeachment. If at least one gets a majority vote, the president is impeached which essentially means being indicted. (In both the Nixon and the Clinton cases, the House Judiciary Committee considered the matter first.)
Next, the proceedings move to the Senate, which holds a trial overseen by the chief justice of the Supreme Court.
A team of lawmakers from the House, known as managers, play the role of prosecutors. The president has defense lawyers, and the Senate serves as the jury.
If at least two-thirds of the senators find the president guilty, he is removed, and the vice president takes over as president.

(115,721 posts)Dude, the Supreme Court doesn't have any jurisdiction over impeachment, and if you're convicted there's no appeal. Didn't your sorry-ass lawyers who can no longer get jobs anywhere else and whom you're probably not paying anyhow, tell you that? In Nixon v. United States (not that Nixon; the other one, a judge), the Supreme Court held that the federal courts couldn't review impeachment trials because they are political questions and could not be resolved in the courts. So good luck with that.

Trump is blind to the other investigations taking place by the SDNY and EDNY, the state of New York AG Office, and states where Trump world operates. He meddles in those jurisdictions, he is toast. Not even the Supreme Court can save him. THAT will constitute Impeachment because he is NOT a King or Dictator for life.
