I screamed at the TV. I agree that the Senate will not impeach him but not trying makes us look like we do not care.
Don't try because you may fail as a horrible example to the people.
Not trying looks like accepting what he has done.
Any additional info that comes out could only provide what some voters need to know. I am sure his base would accept anything he does or says, but they are not the majority.
I say drag as much dirt on him into public view as possible.

I think it hastens the day for Trump's downfall. It can't help. It can only hurt, IMO.

(25,471 posts)The only penalties allowed by the impeachment process itself are removal from office and banning from future office.
Since the process will almost assuredly die in the Senate, the impeachment on its own will not produce any direct tangible results. It won't directly hold Trump accountable for anything.
As you noted, it may influence a few people one way or the other (it could also lead to post-presidency indictments), but conviction fail in the Senate, the impeachment itself really is just symbolic.
