Here is the difference as far as Trump, Nixon Clinton investigations

Nixon and Clinton were in their second term. Re elections - upsetting their "base" whatever it was - was not a factor.

then Nixon won the biggest victory in modern history.

It wasn't until the Saturday Night Massacre, the missing 18 minutes, and the growing public disgust with his chicanery that his Republican support eroded.

That's the tricky part now. I agree that he should be impeached, perhaps even Robespierre's solution employed, but the actual trial in the Senate could be pushing into next year's election. No one knows what that would mean, except more chaos.
