His start-off story was about Steve Bannon's new crusade against Pope Francis and the Catholic Church. Engel was in Rome and showed scenes of Bannon's new digs at a rehabbed 18th Century monastery. Bannon is putting $1 million of his own money (yeah right!) into fixing up the monastery so he can recruit people to help him bring down the Pope.

It really sounds flaky and crazy, except we know he's hooking up with some very wealthy and secretive people in Europe, just like he did with Robert and Rebekkah Mercer. Bannon seems to know how to say just the right things to get these wealthy right-wing nuts to part with their cash. What a world!

The first Crusade was initiated by the Catholic church with a religious purpose, which was to regain control of Jerusalem and the holy lands. Later Crusades focused as much on plundering and greed as on taking control of the holy lands from Muslims. I don’t know Bannon’s purpose in calling for a holy war, but you can bet it involves the plundering of resources in Muslim lands. He’s an idiot, but unfortunately some powerful people—like Trump—have bought into his world view that all Muslims are bad and want to eliminate all Christians.
