(102,379 posts)I can't even watch news coverage. It is far too painful. Notre Dame is truly a treasure and those who thought it was only for the "religious" or the "Catholics" among us are so very wrong.

(4,079 posts)I did an op that went nowhere, but I was quite literally in tears at the news and the images. I consider myself an amateur historian, and even for me this loss is incalculable.

The American people will generously donate to rebuilding the Cathedral of Notre-Dame, I'm sure of it. In the meantime we can commiserate with our friends in France and share in their sorrow.

(9,897 posts)Instead, we have the equivalent to the drunk uncle at every family gathering who instead of sitting down to dinner has to run his fingers through the cake icing, sample the side dishes directly from the serving spoon, handle the main course by patting it with his unwashed hands, and then trips the hostess while simultaneously tearing off her blouse and fondling her without permission or invitation.
After which he will spend the rest of the evening telling everyone he was right and that the entire incident was someone else's fault entirely. This before passing out in the middle of a conspiracy theory about the military controlling climate change as a weapon for the Chinese economy...

(1,639 posts)Was not as cringe-worthy as I would have expected. That said, it wasn't particularly profound or comforting. And it was a little insulting, because it's not as though the French were standing around doing nothing and had to be told to "act quickly".
I would give it a "solid" C minus, which is probably the best grade he ever got that wasn't purchased out right.

(17,276 posts)Such a small part of being President, and he can't even get that much right. Talked about the building out of his vast stores of ignorance on the subject. We don't need a history lesson from him.
Who cares? People are sad, people are hurting and this is all he can think of to say. Obama got it right.

(1,639 posts)What Trump is supposed to do (as a president or a human being) and what Trump is capable of doing are galaxies apart.
All I was saying is that his Twitter response wasn't as outrageously awful as the sort of thing that you would expect of him.
Of course Obama got it right. . . and I was kidding about the C minus. More likely he deserves a D, which I understand is technically a passing grade. (I never got one, so I'm not sure. A "D" for me would have been devastating.)

(4,149 posts)All means are being used, except for water-bombing aircrafts which, if used, could lead to the collapse of the entire structure of the cathedral, it tweeted.
So yes, Trump's response was plenty cringe-worthy. He gets an F minus from me.

(58,352 posts)But of course, Bachman's version of Christianity is such a pisspoor shitstain version of it, too, so not surprising that she'd think Donald is a paragon of Christian virtue because he's as hatefilled, knowledge-fearing, racist, homophobic, misogynistic, and overall clueless as she is.
