$4,000

Turns out we are getting $4,000 back on taxes.

We try to get it right even but we found out in August (lack of attention) that my withholding was way high one month out of work for me.. I knew we were in the sweet spot in terms of the tax changes - rent, no daycare, student loan still, $120K income (she's private sector and makes about twice what I do).

Two accountants in the house but we ain't until the last moment.

Fuck Trump.

I am $6000 back. I was hearing stories from friends that were getting hosed in their taxes. I picked a good year for a job change and to not itemize.

I have it applied to next year's taxes.

Not that it's any of my business, but the real question is, what if next year you owe $4,000, how hard would it be to write that check?

For years my husband and I were up against one year paying a bunch of money, the next year a big refund. Sometimes we'd need to make estimated payments. It had to do with irregular income from investments and was a real pain. Fortunately, at this point in my life I'm divorced, living on SS, a small pension, a couple of annuities, and income from investments, only these days the investment income is much more stable.

Actually, for a couple of years, before I turned on the annuities, I wasn't paying any state or federal income tax. The annuities mean I do pay a little. But I'm not complaining. The important thing is that I have enough to live a decent life.

what I normally get. I think it was due to the ACA...tRump really screwed us ill people big time. I can barely afford it (even with tax credits) but need it. This year I did the taxes myself for the first time without my dad's help (he died out of the blue two weeks ago and I am a basket case over it). It took me 13 hours with the new forms and I am getting a refund three times larger than normal. I think I fucked them up...probably from the stress and crying. I hope Mr. IRS doesn't think I did it on purpose.

I think the final verdict was $1200 more in federal than predicted and $800 more in state than predicted.

Between my two kids, I also paid another $1000 in state taxes for them. They are still in college and their tax due is generally because of scholarship $. Which, by the way, is now taxed at the estate tax rate for unqualified expenses like room/board. Used to be taxed at our tax rate.

I waited to the last minute with both of them but on the plus side I got to FaceTime with both of them today so I could go thru their taxes and e-file with them.

Tomorrow I’ll walk into the state dept of revenue and pay state taxes for all of us (dh and I Plus the two kiddos).
