Today's Republican's peddle only hate. It's who and what they are.

Once upon a time, a long, long time ago in a country called America, Republicans were a legitimate political party. They had ideas with which we Dems disagreed. But we were able to discuss with them the differences in our ideologies.

Then, Richard Nixon, desperate to win the presidency, decided to stir up the hate and resentment that still existed in much of the South. So he decided to win a whole region of the country by openly endorsing the diseases of white supremacy and hatred. The poison he poured into American democracy was called the "Southern Strategy." It worked. Republicans have been using it ever since, and it has spread far beyond the South.

Then, less than a decade later, we ended up with an idiot president who had a combination of charisma, ignorance, and a concept of a world from somewhere in the dark ages. It was, of course, Ronald Reagan, and he mindlessly advanced the creation of the modern Republican Party. In short, this mentally deficient, grade B actor, "gifted" us the beginning of the end of American democracy.

Sorry if I'm being condescending here, but I believe that a vast number of human beings don't/can't think or reason. Republicans understand this far better than we do. Democrats have always, and still do, believe in the "goodness" of humanity. We believe that most humans possess humility, empathy, intelligence, and a sense of justice and fairness.

No one could have predicted the monster that now inhabits the White House. He was an accident of history. He is a creature with zero empathy, zero intelligence, zero knowledge of any of the realities of planet Earth, and a mindless lump of clay that doesn't care about the human beings with whom he shares the world. He cares about nothing or anyone but himself and his momentary wants, needs, whims and demented fantasies.

He is indeed, an ugly example of humanity. But what's even worse, is that the entire Republican Party, their elected officials, and many of their voters, are following him into the hell he's creating. Many of the politicians are doing so out of fear of losing their seats. And far too many of his voters are, imo, people who would readily drink Kool-Aid if they were told to do so.

Lasting damage to democracy is being caused by the Republican Party. They have nothing positive to offer humanity. So, in order to remain in power, they peddle hate. They have nothing else to sell. This is who they are. This is what they have sown. And it is what they are now reaping. Unfortunately, we are all living in the midst of the destruction they have forced upon us. They need to be removed from office, shunned, forgotten and treated as a disease that can never again be permitted to infect humanity.

Hate, fear and a demented nostalgia for a "Leave It To Beaver" 1950s US, which was very bigoted and sexist.

We are at that inflection point, much like the birth of the phony but well financed Moral Majority movement.

Ozzie and Harriett as well as Father Knows Best.

Trump probably thinks that Napoleon was some movie character, or something you buy in a bakery. But he doesn't know that he shares Napoleon's philosophy. He believe's he's in charge and cannot be challenged. He believes that congress is nothing more that a nuisance. He believes he is the king of America.

How did we get here? How did this happen? We'll between the electoral college, Russian meddling, Republican voter suppression, and far too many stupid American voters, we're stuck with this imbecile for close to another two years. Even if he shot someone on Fifth Ave, with the cameras running, he could only be removed through impeachment or the 25th Amendment. And even then, would Republicans do the right thing? Don't hold your breath.

Until he's out of office, he views himself as king. And the fact that the 2020 election is a questionable event, where we don't know whether or not he can win, is an abomination. How could any sane human being consider giving him another four years of bringing chaos to Washington, America and the world?

It seems to me that there is intelligent life on earth. And that makes me wonder why ignorance rules most of the time. I guess that's another way of saying that I'm sick of evolution moving so slowly.

trump is the result of the decades of what republicans have created. he is not an outlier, the only difference between he and other republicans officials is he has no filter between his thoughts and his speech. he stands for everything the republican party has fought for for decades, but mostly they are smart enough to remain as covert as possible. trump is too stupid for that, but he did fire up the hate filled scum.
if we realize what is happening, and take action accordingly, it could turn out trump has done us a great favor by exposing the republican party for what they really are.
