It makes a lot more sense now why things are the way they are. Learning this also has given me great ammo with the racists. The only defense of these policies are racist ones.

I had no idea that these policies went from federal to state to local policy. Was aware of redlining and city policies, and how they affected African Americans in northern cities. I teach about the role of local covenants in keeping black families from buying homes in the suburbs, but I wasn't aware of the extent of the federal role in purposefully creating true ghettos in the post-war years.

Reading it takes more than 17 minutes, but well worth it if one wants more detail and depth.
