Republicans have started calling Democrats socialists, even though it is hardly an accurate moniker. In my opinion, Trump and his enablers are a lot closer to being out and out fascists than any Democrat is to being a socialist.
Totalitarian ambitions
Hypernationalism, jingoism
Identification of an "enemy" to use as a uniting cause
Supremacy of the military
Conservative economic policies
Corporatism
Racism and bigotry
Encouraging violence
Demagoguery
Calling the media as the "enemy of the people"
Anti-intellectualism
Maybe a political scientist would have an issue with my labeling Trump as a fascist; I don't care, I'm close enough. Republicans have taken the strategy of calling everyone to the left of George Lincoln Rockwell as socialists, and I'm sick of it. I'm going to return the favor.
Donald Trump is a fascist!
If I had to put up with righties calling us Commies for no good reason at all, than I can call Bencheeto Trumpolini a Fascist for very good reasons.

(6,709 posts)Actually, I'd go further and say the Republicans have devolved into a fascist party.

oddly enough--if we heed the warning--tRump's exposure of the right might turn out to be the silver lining in this storm.

To the limited extent he exhibits planning type behavior, pretty fascist.

(12,875 posts)It's an uncomfortable truth for those who think they have to defend this fascist and a very inconvenient truth for those of us who believe America should be led by an intelligent, sane, decent human being who is not a fascist.

(10 posts)The only thing that I would say is that it might be inaccurate. Maybe it is just how I think about fascism and fascist thought is that it seems to be an active political philosophy requiring malice aforethought, action, or at least conviction. Trump's convictions are solely based around his own persona and ego. Trump is a narcissist first and foremost. His fascist policies and beliefs seem to be lensed solely through his narcissism, probably to keep focus on him and his ongoing circus.

(18,130 posts)I don't agree that to be a fascist, you have to have thought about it first. He could just have stumbled upon it by accident.
Maybe in a 100 years, historians will recall the bleak days of Trumpism just they do now for the Nazis. Maybe Trumpism will be considered a political movement on its own, maybe it will be considered a subset of fascism, or maybe they'll conclude that they are one in the same. But whatever they decide, it won't be good.
