Trump tax 'cut' actually increased taxes for 10 million American families, report finds

A Center for American Progress estimate found that 10,260,263 families saw their taxes go up, thanks to the 2017 law.

Donald Trump ran in 2016 promising that every American would receive a tax cut. But he has already raised taxes on an estimated 10 million families, according to a new analysis.

The Center for American Progress released its calculations on Friday, based on data from the non-partisan Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy. It found that 10,260,263 American families saw a tax hike last year, thanks to the president’s 2017 Tax Cut and Jobs Act. (ThinkProgress in an editorially independent news site housed at the Center for American Progress Action Fund.)

“Everybody is getting a tax cut, especially the middle class,” Trump told CNN in May 2016.

As he signed the bill into law in December 2017, he claimed the bill would immediately benefit all Americans. “They’re going to start seeing the results in February. This bill means more take-home pay. It will be an incredible Christmas gift for hard-working Americans,” he bragged. “I said I wanted to have it done before Christmas. We got it done.”

Count me in as one of the over 10 million.

I get to pay $2,000.00 dollars to the feds, and over $400.00 to the blue state I live in, while, Amazon, Delta, Exxon/Mobile and others paid zero taxes, and while these same assholes get to keep there fucking tax rates in the coming years, guess what, the Paul Ryan and other libertarian assholes that voted for this POS legislation and that traitor in the white house that signed the legislation, my tax rate will be going up again, and then to top it all off the country has a "guy" that defrauded New York out of over 400 million and his sister just retired from the courts in the state and thinks that she is out of the woods, and we the 10 million get hosed out of 1.5 trillion in more debt ..............................this just pisses me off to know end...................................

We have almost exactly the about the same income as last year, but Fed tax totals went up 40%, state went up 4%. I live in a blue state and between income and property taxes we broke the limit and had to use the standard deductions.

Since we joined the 65+ demographic last year, I'd expected somewhat less tax burden, foolish me.

Thanks tRumpy

.

It is not know it the intent was a shell game, recude deductions to make it seem like people got a tax savings, which might help Republicans in the 2018 elections, but then that tax bill came due now!

Also, Trump's folks are doing something else to fuck Americans, requiring the use of more tax services. There are plans to add all estimated sources of income to our W-4's, inside and outside of work. Meaning if you have a second source of income, your employer will know about it.

My taxes increased significantly. I had higher income because of the required minimum distribution, from which I had taxes withheld, but my taxes were double what I expected. So now I’m required to make estimated quarterly tax payments. Thank goodness we do not have a state income tax or it would have been worse.

And, yes, it’s infuriating that big corporations like Amazon and Exxon Mobil make billions and pay so little in taxes. What happened to the idea of paying your fair share? I guess there is such a thing as a free lunch now.

"Trump Tax 'Cut' Cuts Taxes For ALL Billionaires, While INCREASING Taxes For 10,000,000 REGULAR Families."

That would be a more accurate headline, and it was the point of the Tax Scam in the first place. To give BILLIONAIRES a TAX CUT, AT THE EXPENSE of regular families. In fact, that's the Republican Party's only remaining raison d'etre. That was their method in 1981 with the FIRST Reagan tax scam. Re-distribution of the tax burden FROM the wealthy to the poor. And it's STILL their method.

The main difference was that when they did the first tax scam in 1981 everybody KNEW it was a Faustian bargain. That the general public would give the wealthy a FREE RIDE on taxes, as long as they took their spare money, and used it to create jobs by investing in American companies.

That philosophy has now morphed into the dogmatic belief that the wealthy are SUPERIOR to regular people, and simply DESERVE a free ride. And they no longer use their extra wealth to create jobs by investing in American companies. They invest in Chinese companies that are dedicated to putting American companies out of business; and they stash most of their wealth in tax havens, like the Bahamas, to avoid making ANY contribution to the society in which they live.

but also eliminated a lot of their deductibles. So, they knew they'd pay less up front (BEFORE the 2018 election) and then got a nasty surprise with a smaller refund (AFTER the election). Kudos to the Republican sneaks who engineered that one. It hoodwinked enough people for them to hold onto the Senate, but not the House.

My stress was thru the roof, as I did my taxes, not knowing what to expect. But I came out the same or better. Hard to say because my income varies each year, plus I got an extra deduction for hitting age 65 (surprise! I didn't know about that!). Phew. I dodged a bullet.

I think if a poor family has a day care exemption/deduction, I think I read that is decreased, since it goes by a percentage, now, and poor people have a lower income. Or it's been changed in some way. I remember thinking that that is going to result in a tax increase for those families. BUT, the more income you have, the bigger the daycare deduction or whatever it is. It seemed unfair to me that the more you need help w/daycare expense, the less help you get under the new tax law.

I don’t see how these numbers can be correct. This is only 3% of the population. I’m not in the 3% of anything. I can’t believe for a second that this tax cut only raised taxes on 3% of the populus. And it’s shitty optics to try to argue that it raised taxes on 3% of the people, because Wingtards are just going to say “So what, that’s just the welfare queens and other takers.”

And you can still file your taxes by paper.

" Paper Filing

Filing on paper may be the best option for you if you have a fairly simple tax return or if you're not eligible for e-filing for some reason. But data transcribers at the IRS must manually input taxpayer information for every paper return it receives, so consider e-filing if you have a more complex tax return.

Taxes went down by $2700 compared to last year with the exact same income. I always end up having to pay around $1700 every year. Not only did that go down to $700, I had $1700 extra dollars in my pocket during the year due to the reduced withholding.

I am married with zero dependents taking only the standard deduction. Sorry for everyone who can no longer deduct tens if thousands, but I personally am pretty happy with how it turned out for me.

Most of those ten million are in states that voted against Trump. The Republicans cheerfully voted to add $2.3 trillion to the deficit and still raise taxes on their political opponents.
