Barr is 68, and he had been retired. He doesn’t need this job. I have been perplexed about the why behind Barr’s decision to go after the AG job. The only thing I can come up with is that Barr is deliberately protecting Trump so he can stay in office for the next two years and be reelected. What’s at stake is a Supreme Court seat. If Trump is reelected, he will most likely have the opportunity to replace Ginsburg. Barr does not agree with the separation of church and state and argued that public schools should be teaching moral behavior (of course, according to anti-gay, anti-woman Christian beliefs). Protecting Trump to get one more religious extremist on the Supreme Court may be his motivation for the self-destruction of his own reputation. Indeed, that Supreme Court seat may be the holy grail of the entire Republican Party, and they would do anything to get it. That’s why the Senate is so important in 2020.
