Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY): Sec. Kerry, I want to read part of your statement back to you: Instead of convening a kangaroo court, the president might want to talk with the educated adults he once trusted his top national security positions. It sounds like youre questioning the credentials of the presidents advisers, currently. But I think we should question your credentials today. Isnt it true you have a science degree from Yale?
Kerry: Bachelor of arts degree.
Massie: Is it a political science degree?
Kerry: Yes, political science.
Massie: So how do you get a bachelor of arts, in a science?
Kerry: Well its a liberal arts education and degree. Its a bachelor
Massie: OK. So its not really science. So I think its somewhat appropriate that someone with a pseudo-science degree is here pushing pseudo-science in front of our committee today.
Kerry: Are you serious?! I mean this is really a serious happening here?
Massie: You know what? It is serious. Youre calling the presidents Cabinet a kangaroo court. Is that serious?
Kerry: Im not calling his Cabinet a kangaroo court, Im calling this committee that hes putting together a kangaroo committee.
Massie: Are you saying it doesnt have educated adults now?
Kerry: I dont know who it has yet because its secret.
Massie: Well you said it in your testimony.
Kerry: Why would he have to have a secret analysis of climate change?
Massie: Lets get back to the science of it.
Kerry: But its not science, youre not quoting science!
Massie: Well, Youre the science expert. You have the political science degree.

He obviously has no mental connection to social science and probably has no business being in government if that is his mindset.

He was blatant, to put it mildly. I'm glad Kerry called him on it as he was quite childish and obviously trying to derail the topic at hand.

(17,986 posts)I was just thinking the same thing. Engineering has nothing to do with climate change.
Not sure who is the dumbest Republican Congress person.
Matt Gaetz and his ignorant pencil neck. Massie,Gohmert and his asparagus, Gym Jordan, Mark Meadows and his token or McCarthy. They all blend in together.

(38,318 posts)There's even a few bad biologists who were dishonest enough to pass their exams by regurgitating the evolutionary theory they'd refused. They are bad biologists because Nothing in Biology Makes Sense Except in the Light of Evolution (Theodosius Dobzhansky). Dobzhansky is is interesting because his sharp scientific insights about evolution coexisted with his religious beliefs.
There's an amateur scientist named Forrest Mims who does some interesting work, and writes quite wonderful books and articles about electronics, but his Christian Creationist views have blinded him to a great extent, and have caused him to promote some bizarre theories, not just science theories. He was rejected as the Scientific American amateur scientist columnist for this reason. Outside his obsession with electronics, he's just not that bright. I'd say Massie is a similar sort.

(86,650 posts)I watched that interaction on some news stream and this clown was so full of himself, pointing at Kerry like he couldn't figure out what he was gonna do next, like: "You know what? I'm gonna show you, you ,you... just shut up, I;m gonna show you!"
That was what it was like, no wonder Kerry truncated his act. It was like a bad attempt at comedy. Sad.

Witness: All of them. The live ones put up too much of a fight
Lawyer: Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse?
Witness: No.
Lawyer: Did you check for blood pressure?
Witness: No.
Lawyer: Did you check for breathing?
Witness: No.
Lawyer: So, then, it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy?
Witness: No.
Lawyer: How can you be so sure, Doctor?
Witness: Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar.
Lawyer: I see, but could the patient have still been alive, nevertheless?
Witness: Yes, it is possible that he could have been alive and practicing law

Of course a political scientist is important for assessing the impact of climate change. It impacts people directly, some of them in life threatening ways. That is what political scientists study.

(89 posts)Just in the last few days: Seeing Mnuchin acting like a creepy child in front of Waters, old clips of Herman Cain (up to be on the Fed. Reserve) fumbling like a gradeschooler to answer simple questions, William Barr's lunkheaded talk of "spying", airhead nutcase Candace Owens on behalf of the GOP at a hate crimes hearing--not to mention laughing out loud (but sadly) at Trump's senile "anti-climb" and "oringes" rambles... I can't believe America has come to this. It's like one long cringe. The Republican Party! We said there'd never get back in after the disaster of the GWBush and now here they are making GWBush look like Einstein in comparison. I am losing hope for America. End of rant.
