This is equally ominous and pathetic

In the Politico article about Trump's disgraceful tour of Mt. Vernon:

https://www.politico.com/story/2019/04/10/donald-trump-mount-vernon-george-washington-1264073

the writer states a Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation survey discovered only 4 in 10 Americans could pass the nation's citizenship test. To make it even more shocking, here's the test:

https://my.uscis.gov/en/prep/test/civics/view

It is shockingly easy. I could have answered all the questions before I was out of middle school. Well, not the one about Sept. 11 because it hadn't happened yet, but you get my drift.

That the citizenry of a self-governing, participatory, representative democracy has sunk to this point is indicative of a failing nation.

As I debated between 2 possible answers.

The fact that only 4/10 can PASS? Meaning successfully answer I would presume 12 questions ... is f***ing depressing to ponder.

Of course if you're a RWNJ, you hear this stat and conclude almost nobody in the USA must be a real 'Murican, all just a buncha clueless immigrants.

Apparently one does not always get the same 20 questions as there was none about 9/11 on my test. FYI.

As reflected in the stat quoted. So the "clueless" class would be "real 'Muricans."

I also had to think on the Federalist Papers, but I did dredge it up.

Thanks for posting this! I'm going to find a way to use it in a classroom activity (adult students, not kids). It would be great for both critical thinking and sneaking in a bit of civics and history as well.
