(33,643 posts)"If Medicare for All is enacted as Dems call for, we'll end up with Medicare for None" (i.e. because the money isn't there).
Medicare-for-All, along w/Free College ... are freaking stupid 'rallying crys'.
Calling for Medicare for All is a great way to get almost 0 people > 65 to vote for you. Repubs will hammer the idea to older folks that "You paid for this your whole life, and Dems now just want to give it away to everyone?!? There'll be no money left for YOU!"
The handing of the 'weapon' is being done by those on OUR SIDE, who promote this idea. And the counter-move by the GOP is so obvious it's friggin' ridiculous.
They're already showing us that they haven't missed the opportunity.
And guess what? It WILL work, too.
This is my biggest issue with Bernie, tbh.
Many of his 'slogans' ... suck.

(5,126 posts)Lots of people struggle with when to retire based on health benefits and I have heard so many stories of how retirement plans now are excluding spouses for medical coverage. Spouses may have been stay at home or self employed or worked in part time or even full time jobs that didn't offer medical and were covered by their spouses employer, now they are looking at huge family expenses if they choose to retire due to the continued downward slide of benefits. Single Payer or Medicare for all are needed for our society. There are too many loop holes and hurdles for health care.

Talk about "Phased Medicare Buy-In for people under 65" ... instead. Talk about a Public Option ... instead.
Touting "Medicare for All" can be way too easily used as a bludgeon against us, as can "Free College".
We have to be smarter than this with messaging.

(9,426 posts)the BILLIONS lost by Medicare for the braces scam. Rick Scott from Florida was the perpetrator of a HUGE scam worth Millions from his fraud of medical facilities. If all this money is available for scammers, how can gop say the country can not afford a national health service? tRump is getting Billions for his stupid wall by cutting Pentagon budget, yet medical coverage is too expensive? All other western countries have medical coverage for their citizens, why not this country???
