Let's first talk about what the Republican party leadership wants to achieve.
The GOP is all-in on Trump now, even though in 2015 they really did not want him to be the nominee. Since 2016, Fox and Rupert Murdoch and rightwing radio have been idolizing Trump. So by now, the GOP base LOVES Trump. The base loves Trump more than they love any Republican in Congress. So now the GOP has to back Trump. If they do not, their base votes will evaporate. And the Republican party will be destroyed. The donors that run the GOP do NOT want the GOP to be destroyed. So they are forced to back Trump. (Thank Fox and Rupert Murdoch for that.)
Now, let's talk about what smart Republicans would do on social media given they want to protect Trump. One obvious strategy would be to target Democrats and liberals and tell them everything is going to be ok. "Don't worry, just wait - Trump will get what's coming." Don't protest. Don't get angry. Don't call your reps. Don't organize. Don't canvass. Don't worry - everything will be taken care of. Indictments are coming. Many indictments are sealed. Trump can't pardon people. Mueller will indict Jared. Everything will be taken care of. By Comey. Or Mueller. Or Barr.
Given those two points - that Republicans need Trump protected, and that a good strategy is to tell Democrats to relax, let's consider a few widely known twitter accounts:
Louise Mensch, "Counterchekist" and their friends: Pete EVANS, etc.
I don't purport to know what the agenda of Mensch and her friends on Twitter are.
But I will note that what they have said fits EXACTLY with the kind of desirable Republican social media strategy I outlined above.

What say you about these accounts? Might they be arranged by Republicans trying to get Democrats to stay silent, while Republicans purge the DOJ and cover up the crimes of Trump and his GOP?

Ms Mensch, 41, one of David Camerons most recognisable young MPs, revealed that drugs caused her to suffer bouts of anxiety.
It is something that I regret incredibly, that in my youth that I messed with my brain, she said. I said we all do stupid things when we are young. Its had long-term mental health effects on me. Its caused me to be more anxious than I need to be. Its nothing that anybody needs to glorify.
Under her maiden name Louise Bagshawe, she is a best-selling chic-lit author and is married to rock music manager Peter Mensch. She sprang to prominence as one of the MPs on the Culture select committee who quizzed Rupert Murdoch.
Last year, she admitted taking hard drugs while working in the music industry in her twenties, after being contacted by a person claiming to be an investigative journalist.

(6,916 posts)IF a Republican entity wanted to harm Democrats, they would do what Mensch does: tell Democrats to relax and not worry because everything will be ok.

(115,748 posts)and she doesn't have faintest idea how the American legal system works - but she still came up with bizarre statements, like how federal marshals were going to arrest Trump on the tarmac of Andrews AFB. Half the time she didn't even use the right legal terminology.

To achieve a Republican agenda.

(248 posts)Maybe she knows Barr or maybe she just wants to believe that Barr is trustworthy like I previously did. I, of course, no longer believe him to be honorable, but I was hoping. I can't imagine that Louise is pushing republican agenda. Her history negates that thought. She will admit she was wrong when all is said and done. Just my opinion, of course.

(6,916 posts)If you designed a Republican twitter troll to hurt Democrats, it would look like Louise Mensch.
That said, I'm not saying she is a Republican twitter troll designed to hurt Democrats.
But a Republican twitter troll designed to hurt Democrats would do what she is doing.

(248 posts)OK. Barr is a black hat. I was wrong about that. Acknowledged.
Now, when the actual report comes out, and the indictments come out, we shall see if I am right or not that it doesnt matter.
Rosensteins eyes bulged with horror at Barrs opening sentences after he was thanked.
I felt sure she would admit she was wrong. And she did!

(62,444 posts)Shes much too stupid to be pursuing an agenda.
She has folks here on DU convinced she has some kind of inside information.
What she does is spew mountains of bullshit, and then goes back to pick ones that happened to approximate some actual event in a kinda, sorta way, and then proclaims to have been way ahead of everyone else.
Its a classic Jeanne Dixon schtick, but theres a sucker born every minute.

(6,916 posts)She couldnt do a better job of helping Trump and the GOP if she tried. Could well be intentional. Since she was previously the editor of a rightwing propagnda publication.

As for admitting mistakes? I was willing to give Barr the benefit of the doubt if for nothing more than self-preservation. Barr just threw his entire reputation in the toilet. And for what? Frigging Donald Trump? The GOP that sold its integrity and soul to steal an election, conspire with a foreign power and cover it up? Money? Grift? Compromised by his/their actions?
History will not be kind to these men and women: enemies of the United States of America.
