Nancy Pelosi once again mocks Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for using Twitter for back-up support

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made a subtle jab towards Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez over her alleged dependency on Twitter for public support, insinuating that the freshman lawmaker is neglecting to do work required pass the Democratic agenda into laws.

Ms Ocasio-Cortez has almost 4 million followers on Twitter and has often used Twitter as a tool to rally public support for her progressive proposals including the Green New Deal.

Ms Pelosi, 79, told USA Today on Monday that she is running into issues of leading a House caucus while freshman Democratic lawmakers are pushing the party further to the left. She accuses them of prioritising symbolic gestures over actual legislative achievements.

“While there are people who have a large number of Twitter followers, what’s important is that we have large numbers of votes on the floor of the House,” the California Democrat said.

Maybe 'chide'? Seems more like teaching than 'mocking'.

IDK...I've gotten the impression that they work together better than the media like to portray. They are definitely trying to stoke up a lot of internecine conflict among Democrats right now.

That's not mocking. It's perhaps a sardonic "it doesn't matter how much online support she gets. She needs Congressional votes" statement.

I feel like this is purposefully trying to find a rift between AOC and Pelosi.

And Pelosi has to see how Trump whips up online fervor. It's a way of communicating with the broader public now. I hate that politicians take everything to twitter, but it's not going to change.

Representatives are supposed to represent the constituents of their district while Senators represent the interests of the state. While I appreciate Ocasio-Cortez's enthusiasm and her offering a living wage for her staff, she had a responsibility to her district not to Twitter.

What relevance does it have to the story? It doesn't seem to be some sort of writer's quirk, since the writer doesn't state AOC's age.

Couple that with the obvious shit-stirring headline...

Things that make you go hmmm.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2019/04/08/exclusive-nancy-pelosi-strategist-faces-new-party/2930449002/

At the end of the Yahoo article there is this:

"This isn’t the first time the House Speaker derided Ms Ocasio-Cortez. In February, Ms Pelosi scoffed at the Green New Deal, a climate change proposal introduced by the New York Democrat, in an interview with Politico.

“It will be one of several or maybe many suggestions that we receive,” Ms Pelosi said. “The green dream, or whatever they call it, nobody knows what it is, but they’re for it, right?”"

https://news.yahoo.com/nancy-pelosi-once-again-mocks-172945586.html

But if one follows the link to the original article, you'll find this:

"sked about the proposal on Thursday, Pelosi struck a less dismissive tone.
"Quite frankly I haven't seen it, but I do know that it's enthusiastic, and we welcome all the enthusiasm that's out there," she said at her weekly news conference. "I'm very excited about it all, and I welcome the Green New Deal and any other proposals.""

https://www.cnn.com/2019/02/07/politics/pelosi-alexandria-ocasio-cortez-green-new-deal/index.html

It appears that the author of the Yahoo article, Sarah Harvard, cherry picked segments of other articles to produce click bait.

Yet she "once again mocks" Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez? The reporter and editor both need to take some journalism courses, maybe learn how to use the qualifier "appeared to".

Free market media is effective at duping people into believing conflict exists where it doesn't. Advertisers love it almost as much as shareholders.

The important thing is we allege our sincerity.
