Devin Nunes Is Trying To Get Barr To Prosecute Whistleblowers Against Trump

Rep. Devin Nunes wants Attorney General William Barr to prosecute eight people for leaking, and he claims, lying to the FISA court.

Nunes said on Fox Business:

We think we have got a pretty good idea of who some of the sources are behind these leaks,” he said. “We don’t know if the Department of Justice has been looking at these. But there’s just been unprecedented things have happened.

….

We believe there is a conspiracy to lie to the FISA court, mislead the FISA court by numerous individuals that all need to be investigated and looked at,” said Mr. Nunes, the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee.

….

We’re prepared to make those eight referrals this week, so the two on conspiracy, the one on global leaks, and then five that are more specific on lying, leaking, and misleading Congress.

Devin Nunes is running his own witch hunt

Rep. Nunes is trying to discredit the Russia investigation before the Mueller report is released. He is also trying to intimidate people into not blowing the whistle on Trump, or exposing his behavior. This is a real-life witch hunt that Devin Nunes has cooked up, and it is all about attacking people who either investigated Trump or released information to the public that was damaging for the president.

William Barr’s credibility is close to zero after his hatch and spin job on the Mueller report, but if he allows Nunes and Trump to weaponize the DOJ for use against people who the president views as enemies, it will be an action that will lead to severe congressional and popular backlash. Trump’s flying monkey Nunes is walking the president into a fresh disaster.

I’d smile and think yes, please. Please do that so we can read and hear all about it over the months coming up to the election.

trump is telling him to do this. Nunes isn't the brightest bulb in the box, and trump has a habit of using people like Nunes to do his dirty work.

and a massive dope to say the least.

I bet he went through 3 boxes of Crayolas drafting those referrals. Even with WH lawyer help, he can't even understand what the big words mean, I'm sure.

Bet even Barr will laugh if he ever actually sees these notes. I also suspect he'll sit on this stuff even if asked to pursue same by Trump as he's too smart by 1/2 to get caught up in not only a losing battle but one that could also result in his interference in is own FBI's work in the future. He'll tread lightly and even lie to Trump (oh, sure we're still collecting evidence; I'll get back to you when we have more...) but only to save his own skin.

... As late as December 2016, Nunes claimed there was “no clear evidence” that the Russians had interfered in our election. Even the short summary of the Mueller report released by Attorney General William P. Barr confirms what was clear back then: that the Russians were behind the hacking of the Democratic National Committee. Nunes also denied that there had been any contacts between the Trump campaign and the Russians. “It’s all a dead trail that leads me to believe no contact, not even pizza-delivery-guy contact,” Nunes told The Post in February 2017. So far, 102 contacts between the Trump campaign and Russian representatives have been publicly revealed. But it’s true none of them involved Domino’s.

Rather than investigate Trump-Russia ties, Nunes used his perch at the House Intelligence Committee to promote crazy conspiracy theories designed to distract attention from the allegations against Trump. After Trump claimed that President Barack Obama had wiretapped him, Nunes announced in March 2017 that a “whistleblower” had told him that the Obama administration had unlawfully “unmasked” the names of Trump aides in surveillance transcripts. It turns out that his “whistleblower” was a trio of Trump aides and that there was no evidence of any illegal unmasking. Nunes was accused of improperly disclosing classified information and had to temporarily recuse himself from the Russia investigation.

Undeterred, Nunes resurrected bogus claims that Hillary Clinton had sold American uranium to Russia. He then claimed that the FBI had launched its investigation of Trump based on the Steele dossier paid for by Clinton’s campaign. In early 2018, he campaigned to publicly disclose a memorandum making the case, even though the FBI objected that it contained classified information. Nunes got the memo out, but it didn’t prove what he claimed. Turns out the FBI launched its investigation after a Trump foreign policy aide revealed that he knew about the Russian hacking before it became public.

Nunes went on to further discredit himself by making false claims that the FBI spied on Trump’s campaign and that the texts sent by FBI agent Peter Strzok and FBI lawyer Lisa Page were evidence of a vast conspiracy against Trump. “These people are really dirty,” Nunes fulminated against the FBI and the Justice Department. He even threatened to impeach Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein ...

10. GOP strategist questions whether Nunes understands Constitution

The Republican communications strategist who Rep. Devin Nunes is suing — alongside Twitter, a cow and a mom parody account — penned an op-ed in USA Today on Friday, suggesting that Nunes not only doesn’t understand the Bill of Rights, but also his commitment to it as a literal lawmaker.

“It’s vitally important that the entire nation understands what this lawsuit is really about: A sitting member of the U.S. government, specifically, a congressman, is trying to stifle free speech — mine, yours and every other American’s — by using litigation as a cudgel to bully and intimidate,” Liz Mair wrote, speaking out at length for the first time since Nunes filed the suit last month. She questioned whether Nunes actually defends the Constitution he swore to defend.

“His action in filing this pleading draws into question not just his view of law applicable to this case, but also his belief in freedom of speech and his commitment and adherence to his own oath of office. Individually and collectively, all of these things should be extremely concerning to every American, no matter where they live, whom they vote for and where they fall on the philosophical spectrum,” she continued. “Rep. Nunes’ lawsuit also rightly generates skepticism that he truly understands the United States’ history of broadly and firmly protecting liberties, and the truth about why the Bill of Rights — including the First Amendment — was drawn up and remains the law of the land to this day” ...
