The IRS always sends out a letter when they audit somebody. If Trump were under audit like he claims, he or his lawyer/accountant would have that letter, and it would be pretty simple to produce it.

Trump is last person anybody should trust. Show us the audit letter. He spent 5 years demanding the POTUS produce his "papers." Produce the audit letter.

4. Having your tax returns audited doesn't necessarily mean there's something criminal about them.

It might mean that there is information that's missing or the numbers don't tally. Sometimes all it means is that you have to produce more documents, or that some entity you do business with is being audited. The IRS also does random audits. And one other thing Trump has never produced is an audit letter, which would request certain specific additional information for a particular tax year, and which would prove he really is being audited. Even so, being audited isn't an excuse for a candidate or a president refusing to release their returns.
